I'm just getting into this band, and was wondering, does the lead singer always sing in that whispery/creepy style? It's not bad, but I wasn't expecting it. I know he also screams, but there doesn't seem to be a balance from what I've heard.

For those that love this album, what makes it amazing for you? Why does it stand tall after all the years?

Abysmal effort. Half of these DJs are absolute hacks. It's embarrassing that most of the tracks have been tagged with the name of classic deftones songs. Feiticera being the best example.

ngl I’m glad I was once 11 and stumbled upon Linkin Park’s Reanimation (was only drawn to the gundam, didn’t hear HT before it). Opened my eyes to remixes of metal records, tho in the 90s they were mostly not good (like that one Fear Factory remix album). At least LP kept it fresh back then, the album was mostly good. Some guest spots were garbage, the skits were worthless but a product of the time, but for the most part they made the originals better.

My stance on Black Stallion is that yea, some of the remixes were not what I expected (but how would you expect where a remix would go? you don’t you fools). I expected Blanck Mass to go harder, DJ Shadow not to use some of those corny vocal samples, Clams to go a bit more true to the original than turn it into almost, one of his hip hop beats, and Mike Shinoda.. he honestly didn’t do a bad job (love that Chi’s bassline sticks out, but holy shit that chorus is bad) but ehh considering how they did a good remix album almost 20 years and where his style went from there.. I would’ve picked someone else. It did its job as a alluring single to bring new fans I imagine.

Everything else is fine to me. I never liked Street Carp, I tried for almost 20 years, I would rather hear the remix any day. Teenager sounds much better without the outdated drums. LOVE how glitchy RX Queen is, especially when the chorus breathes. Purity Ring made Knife Prty pretty which I know made dumbass metalhead fans mad (y’all still have the originals, don’t cry about it). Korea and Change are great standalone electronic remixes, like hotdamn Tourist made Change fuckin THUMP.

and finally... Squarepusher. His best fuckin remix ever. It goes so fuckin hard, the drums are amazing, he made it sound like a mutual fan put his hands on it.

I’m not won over by the remix album as a whole but to say that it sucks, idk maybe I’m a better fan than most of you (y’all for sure are not familiar with some the remixers’ materials) and this isn’t even close to my favorite of theirs. At least it made me appreciate this more after all this time.

Yeah same here on Street Carp, for sure like that remix more than the original. Maybe Elite too. I haven’t listened past Teenager yet though.

I love Rel's words but remixes are for loosers.

You also should come clean about what happened to you and Street Carp...cause its a nasty m/ one...my guess is that someone rejected your cell number or something like that.

@Isildurs its really awesome enough to get your unbiased perspective...Chino is a moaner and screamer...honnestly go chron on them...to see Chino s rage being smartly tamed when needed. That s what s cool about Deftones, they go heavy and gazey...prob the most sexy (not lame) metal band.
