Holy shit Tides of the Moon is so saccharine in the worst way
IDK if I can get through the entire album if it's all like this

Yeah I hate this, but the closer is cool and Nite and Fog was okay
Most of this sounds like a cat mixed with Neil Young vocally over some Disney strings
Don't hate me, I love Yerself Is Steam

Do you like Deserters Songs?

Album Rating: 2.0
Eh, Deserters like a 3/5
Not the direction I wanted from them after an awesome first 3, but at least it was well pulled off

Woah you gave it a 3. Quite based.
Secret Migration and Snowflake are worth checking if you are curious of where else they go.

Ars rated this a 1.5 - he won't like anywhere they head after this.
Everything after this is a weaker version of this album tbh.
Love this album even though it's 'quite commercial' in the strangest way possible.
They actually go more MOR and new age on 'Secret Migration', but I've grown to vibe with that album too. You need to approach these as largely a separate thing to the first two albums, though 'Other Side' is transitional.

Otherside is transitional for sure, but I feel that’s why it succeeds. Every cutesy Disney moment is still mixed with an interesting idea. Like how Kiss from the Moon has that jaunty piano or Everlasting Arm has the cool crooning brass
Man that album is underrated

Yeah that’s a great album too
I just have a soft spot for everything this band does for some reason, just like them a lot more than The Flaming Lips etc

Bumping this to a 2 upon 2nd listen. This is why I usually give albums 3 listens before I move on
I still don’t like this at all, but my 1.5 may have been a reaction to how much I dislike tracks 2 and 3 (and still do) but after that it’s not nearly as bad. Doubt this will go up much further (maybe a 2.5) but at least I can see the appeal more clearly now

Listening to 'Tides of the Moon' for the first time at Reading in 2001 was one of my favourite ever live performances :'(
I do get this album is quite cheesy
