I got it on Wednesday. Awesome album. I can't be bothered to reiterate what I've said in various other threads, but I really like it, and L'Via is the best song on there.

This album is crazy....

I've heard this ,album about 5 times since it's release here in the UK. I loved De loused, but to be fair this album is completely different, which i'm glad about, if i picked up frances the mute and it was the same as de loused that would be boring. the fact is the new album is amazingly original. i dont see why everyone has to puit music into genres, who cares? i don't all i care about is listening to somthing i enjoy, something frash and original. i mean sure its gonna sound a bit like otherstuff, but its impossible not to. Fact is this is an amzing album and you should buy it if you wanna hear something new, something not just made to to sell, but made for the point of the enjoyment of a narrative musically. i don't think it has a genre, its just music and you've gotta decide whether you like it or not and not worry bout the bloody genre! The album kicks ass though Get it when its near you.

Man..... I loved De-loused, and this one is just as great. I don't like, however, all the ambient noise sections. I just don't see the point. When it's done like Pink Floyd's "The Wall", then it's great, but to just have 4 minutes of whirring noises for no apparent reason takes away from the "listenability" of this record. The music, however, is perfect. "The Widow" is the kind of song I'd always wish I had written.
Still, nothing owns "Televators" yet. That song is just brilliant

Being a big fan of Progressive Rock, I don't mind most of the ambient sections.
I think the only mistake that brings this album down is The Widow.

I really like this album. Omar's first solo melted my face off due to sheer awesomeness.

Nicely done. I prefer De-Loused but I like how the latin influence is much more clear on Frances.

I just picked this up today. I love it, but I like Deloused better... I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

this album is fantastic, as is your review. good job

The album is good. I really like Deloused. However, here's my little off shoot of "creative criticism" I like Progressive music, and I like the freedom that some musicians display within their art, what I don't like is nearly 2 minutes of little echo's and drawn out vocal loops that are sopposed to set "mood" I personally think that in order for a CD to be a good listen-thru style CD, it has to flow. And in my opinion Frances doesn't do that for me. I love each song, but unforunately I find myself wanting to just skip songs rather than listen through the album like I did on Deloused.
Not meant to ruffle feathers, just stating how I feel as a fan of TMV.

I havent listened to everything yet. But I really like the album. My favorite song so far is Cygnus....Vismund Cygnus

Album Rating: 4.5
This album really is killer. Also, I "get" it now and can play lots of it on guitar. Good times.
|
| |
umm deloused is 1000x better than frances. and i give deloused about a 4/5
|
| |
The only real problem I've ever had with TMV was their penchant for weird-sound interludes, and they've inflated them on this album. But the rest of the CD is so good, I don't even care.
|
| |
this is an utterly brilliant album
|
| |
there is a reason for the wierd sound interludes though... and not alot of people seem to get this. They go exactly with the story. Plus they sound awesome with drugs!!!
|
| |
this is a farkin great album. i wouldnt say its better than deloused because deloused had a lot of more memorable tunes and there wasnt so much pointless ambience on it. i dont think tmv shouldve tried to make the 77-min long album they were aiming for by puttng so much weird-noise in it, but theres a lot of good stuff on it still. cygnus and the widow are the best songs IMO. im tipping theyll both be classic prog-rock albums in years to come.

| |
this is a truly amazing album from a truly amazing band
just as good as deloused
5/5

i love this album and i realy like dlitc too...i am about to read your review (it's printing)...the only problem i have with this album is the random noise hit they have going on...

Album Rating: 4.0
I was all set to trash this review after my first listen. I didn't think that it was terrible, certainly, but the long ambient sections really turned me off.
Now that I "get" it (as somebody above said), the ambient sections feel almost necessary. You can't just jump from one track to another with an album like this. This isn't an album to blast from your car, though - you have to soak it in.
Some of the best albums that I have ever bought give me that initial "What the HECK did I just buy!?!" feeling.
