Can a band do that, buy the rights to an album and re-record it with a new singer? Because the rest of the band are great musicians and I seriously hate that my nostalgia for this is ruined by a monster.

Possibly, but I bet it's quite complicated legally. I love this and the follow up but just cannot listen any more
