idk but at the very least even mf doom wouldnt deliver "and I ain't dealin with no minimum wage / i'd rather construct rhymes on a minimum page" with a straight face (or at all)

In response to Inveighs comment on the first page, I can't disagree enough. The lyricism on this album is so unbelievably overlooked and poetic, it goes over most heads.
That's my opinion. This is my favorite hip-hop album ever.

"I'm just a pigeon with one mile left/ That doggy-paddles through this bullshit ocean of death/ And these rags-to-riches words will break bones/ Like the assassination of two birds with one stone/ That's why I don't associate with bird brains with their beaks in the air/ Pelicans with wide jaws yap names for fish heads/ You'll get tossed in the flames/ Where some archaeologist will find your skeletal frame"

idk, the quoted section up there doesn't really impress me at all either. one syllable rhyme schemes with cliche phrases like "killing two birds with one stone" only he says assassinate instead.
I'm just a pigeon with one mile left/ That doggy-paddles through this bullshit ocean of death
that to me just sounds overly melodramatic and like something a nu-metal band would've written.
I mean it definitely has a few cool lyrical moments and the beats are incredible but I still think it's one of the more overrated albums in the genre.

Yeah, my point is basically that these guys lyrics really DO go over many peoples heads, i just know
that because I have lots of friends that I tried to push this music on and they didn't understand
the lyrics at all. I have only recently really started to pick up on lots of the things they say,
after years of listening to it.
And by the way, great lyrics don't equal complicated rhyme schemes. This album focuses most of it's
lyrical content on their thoughts and emotions, and do it in a very poetic and personal way.
While I see what you're trying to say about the nu-metal thing, the attitude used to express those
words on this album is something I have yet to hear from any other artist, especially a nu-metal
band (lol @ nu-metal).
"Cannibal O-plus the-X
love to sex, microphones, the type of poems
We spit rips through scripts and strips ya bones
Yo we sick wit poems off the dome
I'm off the known, inhaling Newports and eights
Cause New York is sick, still we walk and spit
Straight off the dick
Wit these niggas please you freeze in the NYC where everyone..
Live from the 1-3-5 representing niggas that strive
Straight through hard times trying to survive
Inside of New York, the island of crime
Where the most violent of minds, walkin these blocks
Stay eyeing on mine, yo my brain sparks like sporting a glock
I might start firing live, straight off of the top
Cannibal Ox, inspiring minds, flipping on tracks
Spitting these live, animal raps
I'm strangling cats, sliding on my side of the map
Thinking he all, you aint got it like a mighty matter of fact
You small, claiming you large?
I'm pulling ya card, leavin ya scarred"

lol I really don't think the lyrics are going over my head at all. I mean maybe they do go over some people's heads, but there not nearly as abstract and thought-provoking as say, Aesop Rock or El-P's stuff.

"My shell, mechanical found ghost.. But my ghetto is, animal found toast"
Until you know what that means, you can't say they don't go over heads.
Most of the time they aren't overly abstract, but they're lyrics still take a lot of thought and
effort to completely decipher.
And Aesop sucks

All I was tryin to point out was that they aren't lyrically inferior, and that's just my strong opinion. Being one of my favorite artists/albums I'm just trying to back up what I believe because most people don't get the lyrics to this album all that much, and that's a big reason people don't think its that strong lyrically.
I'm not trying to say my opinions better than anyone elses

fair enough. I don't think the lyrics are "inferior" necessarily, I just find them to be a little overhyped in certain circles.
still a great album of course.

Hip-Hop fans have a tendency to overrate and underrate stuff pretty heavily lol.

First time I heard this album it went in one ear and out the other, I wasn't digging it at all. After repeated listens the lyricism slowly starts making more sense and simultaneously become more impressive. Vast Aire usually outshines Vordul but each have their fair share of lyrical gems.

I think Vast > Vordul lyrically sometimes, but Vordul by far has the better flow/presence.
