the artwork behind the album is also quite literally cartoon characters dawg, drawn by an actual cartoonist
Imagine saying this to justify the objectively cringey unfitting vocals unironically LMAOOOO

This used to be my favorite Floyd album, but man after so many years I realize it has quite a few gaping cracks that could've been shaved off

trial vocals are fine as are, is completely appropriate that the protag's internalised voices are goofed up to the point of awkwardness - shit is ripping a plaster off his neuroses, not inviting the audience to enter any kind of complicity. needs an alienation factor
some real simp shit to expect your suspension of disbelief to be constantly indulged on a record this intricately concerned with shifting levels of toxic fantasy

the movie > the album
Once you peep the film, the disc on its own feels massively incomplete.

Never saw the movie. I did see Nostalgia Critic's review of it. That was... something.
And yeah the Trial's vocals still suck so I'm glad we established that

i'd like to see the nostalgia critic's review of being torn to pieces by hungry hyenas

It already was, that's the best part. Many consider it to be one of the worst reviews ever made and I can see why

"the movie > the album

I've seen the film once. Okay for what it was... good visuals. Overriding memory was that of an extended music video, and in no way whatsoever integral to the (IMO far superior) album experience.
"Imagine saying this to justify the objectively cringey unfitting vocals unironically LMAOOOO"
It's counterpoint to the serious presentation of characters/scenarios earlier in the album. Cartoonish because it's a fucking breakdown; overbearing characters (like the overprotective mother) are played out to extreme, grotesque exaggerations. Plus, it's inherently a British album, made by Brits... the culture of "cringey" vocals/characters etc., permeated the era. Satirists (Spike Milligan, Monty Python, etc. etc.), dealt in all of that, and this fell right in line with it. It's all about authorship and context.

Some of those vocals on Don’t Leave Me Now…..swing and a miss…

Top 5 tracks on this yeah. Dude is supposed to sound piney and annoying and you’re not supposed to sympathize with him. He has literally just thrown several objects across the room at a woman he barely knows, and is crying about failed romantic situations he has himself constructed through self-sabotage. Ever heard your homie whining about a girl who clearly doesn’t give a shit about him? It’s not cute
When the guitar and drums and piano come in for that climax tho. Chef’s kiss

My wife and I listened to the album the other night while making dinner and I think I lost her around the neo-nazi cult part.

To be fair, I think it's the part where the concept really gets a little wild. Building a wall because you blame marriage, family, and institutions for being fucked up: check. Losing yourself to drugs, alcohol, and the stress of touring: check. A giant butt being a judge that presides over your self-imposed mental exile: check. Turning into a neo-nazi because the world sucks... imo there's not enough build up to that shift in mindset haha.

Interesting take my friend. I personally don’t think the neo-nazi portion of the story is far fetched at all. In many ways it’s a perfect mirror for the incel movement as it exists today, which very often crosses over into the neo-nazi movement

Oh don't get me wrong, I think it works. I think the way I was just trying to give my wife an abbreviated explanation of it was not the strongest haha. It's on me for sure.
