Meteora was Linkin Parks follow up to the incredibly succsesful Hybrid Theory (The biggest selling album of 2001 which shipped 16 million copys!). It see's Linkin Parks token sound somewhat more evolved. It's an album which uses more sampled sounds and by watching the DVD which comes with the special edition anyone can respect how much hard work Linkin Park put into their music however somehow Meteora doesn't shine as much as it should with the ammount of work put into it. Let's go to the songs.

Foreword - 13 seconds of um sound?

Don't Stay - The first real song on the album kicks things off well. Joe Hahn puts down an awesome scratching solo before kicking off to a verse. The chorus is the best part of this song which really brings it together.

Somewhere I Belong - This is the first single off this album. One thing you can tell from this song is Linkin Parks evolution in their sound. The intro here is a guitar chord progression, reversed and flipped back again giving it a sweeping sound. The song is a pretty good song and Mike makes his first rap in the album. It sort of seems to be like LP's more emotional songs (Crawling, In the End) but doesn't quite make the cut.

Lying From You - This is a good song. Mike makes the song with his two verses and lyrcially this is a song I can really relate to. The best part of this song is the breakdown however. The combination of Mikes rapping and Chesters screaming goes down perfectely to make this a memorable song.

Hit the Floor - Probably the hardest LP song to date (Yes I hear the metalheads scoff again). This song really kicks ass. The hip-hop element of LPs music comes out to play here and is backed with an awesome guitar riff. Awesome verses combined with awesome chorus's and the best bridge/breakdown ever make this one of the strongest LP songs. When Mike raps 'I know i'll never trust a single thing you say, you knew your lies would divide us but you lied anyway and all the lies have got you floating up above us all but what goes up has got to fall' it goes down as possibly one of the best lines in music ever.

Easier To Run - This song really suffers from the previous song. After listning to Hit the Floor this song is pretty bland. It suffers somewhat like Somewhere I Belong does. It trys to be an emotional song but just comes off bland. It's probably the weakest song on the album.

Faint - This is the second single off the album. It reedems to bore that is Easier To Run. Mike brings up two strong verses and Chester makes another awesome bridge. The lyrics are straight forward and something anyone can relate to.

Figure 0.9 - This is probably the next weakest song after Easier To Run. It's not a bad song but really it's just a bit bland. It sounds almost a bit to much like Faint and doesn't do much for variation.

Breaking the Habit - A song 5 years in the making (The dvd gives you the full story behind this song) it really shines as one of the best songs. It's reminescent of Crawling or Pushing Me Away off Hybrid Theory. It's an emotional song and Chester pulls the vocals off perfectely.

From the Inside - It seems for the final half of this album for every good song Linkin Park put on they balance it by a bad or weaker song. This one isn't bad and isn't that weak but it suffers from the same as From The Inside. Trying to pull something emotional off and failing. It's a song which you will enjoy but yet just not so strong.

Nobody's Listening - And yet again LP redeem the past song with a good song. The verses Mike makes strong with his rap. The chorus is ok but nothing special. The most hip-hop orientaited song on the album.

Session - The best comparassion I can see for this song is the instrumental off Hybrid Theory. This song is a combanation of Mike and Joe's. It's a track made all from samplers and turntables. Unlike the song on Hybrid Theory (Yes I've forgotten it's name) this song manages to keep you listning for most of it however most people will find this the worst song on the album.

Numb - This is the latest single rotating around radio and MTV. It's also a great way to end the album. On Hybrid Theory they ended it with the awesome Pushing Me Away and this song has the same effect. It's an emotional song which unlike the majority of them on this album LP pull it off perfectely. Everything works on the song and is a good song to end the record on.

So overall an album of mixed results. Alot of good songs brung down by quite a few bad ones. None of the lightning fast rap here which made Hybrid Theory shine though the production and mixing is top notch here. If your a fan of LP this album is worth buying but it's better to get Hybrid Theory first if you don't have any LP albums. Proceed with caution on this album.

Rating - 3/5

Yep, nice review. It's really a medio-core album. Good songs to me are Numb and Don't stay. The rest does not really stay in mind very long. I like the instrumental Session too.

Overall, I personally would give this one a 3/5

I realize how hard-working Linkin Park is when making albums, but I found this album extremely dull compared to Hybrid Theory.
And overall, I didn't like it.

I enjoyed it, but only for a little while...then I became tired with it. Hybrid Theory was by far the superior album.

Their sound is way too homogenized by now, and the non-synth instrumentalists have gotten lazier. I can't stand LP any longer.

When first heard LP, it had sort of a gritty, and sharp sound (vocals) which was awesome and the band knew how to use their instruments which is something you dont really see these days. Meteora was more polished and refined which was a step up but was nowhere near as good as Hybrid Theory

Hybrid Theory had less bad songs on it..in fact, there isn't a track on HT that I don't like. Meteora...meh...Easier to Run, From the Inside...and to an extent, Somewhere I Belong, did nothing for me. In contrast, their good songs are great...so...

I still love the CD, but I haven't worn it out like I wore out HT

^ Interesting, you know the name of a bassist who makes less noise than Helen Keller on this album.

Well, I think Linkin Park is a great band, and not just because I'm a fan of theirs, but because I think all of the songs on this album are great, I give it a 5/5. And if you don't agree, then no big. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I also like a lot of other bands such a metal, punk, and alternative ones, so don't get me wrong. And good work on the thread, although I don't completely agree with everything. :thumb:

Well, 1st of all, it took me a bit to get into LP. Same thing happened 2nd album around. Didn't think they could top HT. As SIB seemed mediocre for so long, it worked it's way into my head. Faint got me interested again, and not until this year, I've boughten Meteora and it's an UNDENIABLE album. LIke with SIB, they have an uncanny knack for writing songs to be played to death without sounding tiresome.

I like the new one so much, it just keeps getting better after every listen. I really think they give NIN a run for the money, in terms of repetitive listening.

Definite 5/5. BTW, you radio listeners.... You ain't heard NOTHING of LP, until you put LP through a soundsystem. Believe it.

i think too many people are very bent into hating all numetal. i honestly cant stand their "heavier" songs, but their melodic ones, on both the first and second album, are very very good.

this album is a 7.5/10

Yeah I agree. Hybrid was so good. They actually cared about using guitars and making rock music. Now there just all electronic crap. I liked Hit the Floor, Don't Stay and Lying from You

I agree that so many people are bent on hating nu-metal, but I don't really see Linkin Park as nu-metal. They don't really sound exactly like all the other nu-metal bands today. Like KoRn, who use obsessive amounts of bad language; there's not a single cuss word in any Linkin Park song. I respect them for that. And they do put a lot of work into their music.

I also agree that some of the songs aren't too great on this album. Such as "Easier To Run" or "From The Inside." But I still give it a 5 out of 5. It is different than their first cd, but I'm waiting to see what the 3rd will be like...or 5th if you count the Live In Texas or Reanimation cds. I found Reanimation to be truly boring. As long as they stay above that with their normal songs, they will always have me buying their cds. But anyway, I think that for their 3rd cd they might try to blend the previous two albums. Try to produce the same raw sound the first had, with the more emotional side of the newer one. This could be another instant success, or a complete failure.

Or who knows, it could be something completely different than both. I just hope they don't fade away from the public eye and die like Limp Bizkit or KoRn.

LP is one of my favorite bands and I've been in to them since HT. Meteora was good in its own right, but personally I don't think it was up to par with Hybrid Theory.

I personally think this album is genious, but that is probably because I am a fan...
I think it represents everything what I like about LP... They combined many musical styles to make a whole new ehh style... Not only did they use metal and hiphop; they went classical, oriental and electric... I'd give them a 5/5

I (being a big LP fan) think that HT was a better album. Every song on that CD was great. Meteora kind of disappointed me. I never liked Easier To Run or From The Inside. Lying From You and Hit The Floor are OK. The songs that really save this CD for me are Don't Stay and Faint. I remember them opening with Don't Stay when I saw them on the LPU tour. I loved the screaming part in the verse then and I still do. And the intro to Faint is genius. The combo of the electronic part and the drums make for a very cool verse. The beat is just cool. So, overall, I'd give this CD a 3/5.

By the way, any LPUers in here?

The song you're looking for is "Cure For The Itch".

I love Linkin Park (one of my fav. bands) but I think Hybrid Theory is better. Meteora's good, but not as good as HT. Reanimation was a big disappointment to me. Live In Texas was awesome to the fans who don't get to go to too many shows (I'm barely 16 and I've only been to one concert, which wasn't a LP one). The DVD/CD really showed the non-show-going fans a good look/listen at LP's live show.
