i agree with stabbler. and happy songs for happy people isnt that good. it is good, it has a nice chilled out vibe, but it doesnt really have a lot to say or go anywhere. its good for the summer though, and boring machines is a great song.

Young Team is their best

Government Commissions is their next best imo, but that one isn't a proper studio album

This album as a whole builds so much tension. I mean, it's depressing, atmospheric and overall just tension-building until Ex-Cowboy kicks in. From that song on, this record just unleashes the tension it had built so far with more than half the songs it contains, and that's just genious. I just wished for this to have more unleashing moments like Ex-Cowboy or Christmas Steps. Mogwai could easily incorporate a climax on Chocky.

And gotta say Cody is so fucking perfect.

AND Walts For Aidan is underrated, such a beautiful song.

I say this thing is perfect. One of the records I reach out to the most when I'm in a downer mood. Post-rock, indie rock, ambient, noise rock, whatever this is, screw genres. Don't take this as a post-rock record, just take it as a record. As far as objectivity goes, this is one of the most intelligent albums I've listened to. It strives for and achieves melancholy by setting the calmer and quieter moments on the first half so the listener is left with sad, melancolic emotions, and on the second half the album takes off to the climaxes so those feelings remain even stronger, leaving one emotionally shattered by the end of this thing. It's magical. Every single track in here is necessary in order to obtain the final results.

I wouldn't say "better"... two records, too different from each other, Nips.
