Aren't lads the brit version of American bros?
Not an insult, an observation as I totally dress like a bro
I don't act like a bro tho...I don't like parties. Or alcohol. Or drugs
|
| |
Always preferred the cheeky chap personality of Damon over the arrogant bellend of Liam, bet that was a class gig as well
|
| |
being a lad is all about banter, going on the pull and getting your stomach pumped every friday night
I think the difference between a lad and a bro is that lads are more accepting and nowhere near as hard as they think they are. Lad culture hasn't really changed much.
|
| |
Yeah there is absolutley no fucking way on this planet a lad would be in a gym or give a fuck about US university frat style shenanigans.
|
| |
Unless getting glassed counts as shenanigans. Mind you zak I have seen some laddish types in the gym before.
|
| |
That's definitely the difference then Tuna. Weekend warriors after pay day, footy, drink, pull, fight in the kebab house ad infinitum.
The ridiculous levels of preening, look obsessed thing really didn't happen then. Splash of aftershave and wet look gel that was ya lot.

"Splash of aftershave and wet look gel that was ya lot."
Me in a nutshell really except I go for the shockwaves clean cut stuff. Wouldn't go any further than that. All this fake tan, body waxing shite on lads is just a step too far.

Album is incredibly overblown but I dig it hard.

This is britpop's last gasp
|
| |
Britpop was already 6ft under. OKC had ripped its head off
|
| |
I'd say the great escape was more of a last gasp, although a very restrained one at times.

Nah. 94-96 was the britpop zenith. Again it was a cultural thing brought about by the media magnifying a sense of Britishness and 60s nostalgia. Loaded, FHM, 'lad culture' the last throes of football before it became a franchised business. Any two bit band from this island made an album. Menswear, Northern Uproar, Rialto and literally countless others.
The turning points were Pulp becoming serious, a move towards darker themes via trip-hop and massive rise in dance music. The assimilation of the scene by people like Robbie Williams and people of that ilk.
It was an inflated mess and OKC popped it.
|
| |
A mercy killing, if you will
|
| |
It was god awful tbh.
Can't tell you how amazing okc was back then. A true mind blower.
|
| |
well it still blows minds now so back then...
