I didn't really care for that one, but I should go for an evaluative re-spin. Sadly, this was the last one I enjoyed, the ones that came after this are all 2.5s for me at the moment.

Axioma was/is the only Enslaved album that blew me away, the rest (from what I've heard) are at least a couple of tiers below, then all the way down to completely unimpressive.

I loved the Mardraum/Monumension/Below The Lights run the most, and Frost. After this their music seems to have lost all sense of urgency for some weird reason. I think it's the vox (both cleans and harsh).

The harsh vox are a lot 'friendlier' I guess, they don't really have that venomous edge associated with BM & of course there's cleans aplenty. Axioma ups the prog elements considerably but it does feel like a natural evolution and a much more finished product, when compared with the albums of the previous era (which includes this). The follow-up was kind of boring in comparison though.

Yeah the venomous edge is what is missing in the vox. It's exactly that.
I like Axioma more than a 2.5 now though, will bump up a notch.
