Necrophagist are a band you really have to listen to. Sort of like Opeth. People don't understand it, or say it gets boring, but that is because they aren't listening to the intricacies in the writing.

And I think the vocals suit the music perfectly.

It's a great album, but I never REALLY got into it. Onset of Putrefaction is much better imo, it's a lot more interesting. To me, this is just a watered down version of it's predecessor, there is nothing bad about it, it's just not as interesting as Onset is.

Perhaps they are opening themselves up to a wider listening range? Necrometallica!

This album, just seems overly technical..don't get me wrong I think it is good..but it seems at times the memebers just want to show everyone how skilled they are.

The riffs are intricate but most of them are uninteresting because they depend too much on flare and not enough on important aspects of what makes something interesting. Since that explanation sucked, let me elaborate.

Some tech death bands use counterpoints and polytonality to create odd harmonies, like Immolation and Anata. Some tech death bands use fast-paced guitar interplay and chaotic rhythms, like Spawn of Possession. Some tech death bands use odd time signatures or polyrhythms to make the music feel uneven, like Gorod. What does Necrophagist do? They basically just shred.

Necrophagist's arrangements have to be some of the worst technical death metal has ever seen. Stabwound is really only like one minute put on repeat, and alot of the other songs are extremely repetitive and predictable.

The album is still enjoyable for what it is, but it's really nothing too special.

Actually, I take the thing back about their arrangements sucking, Sleep Terror and bands similar to them have zero concept of how to write a song, whereas Necrophagist's songs at least have cohesion. This Message Edited On 01.05.08

They're supposed to put one out this year. Hopefully it will be good.

If they just improve on what they have here I think it'll be great, Muhammed seems comfortable in this sound but he really needs to think less and feel more when writing music.

Yeah, they're supposed to release a new album before the Summer Slaughter

Festival I believe.

If they get make it as awesome as Onset of Putrefaction, I'll be stoked.

And I agree with everything you said up there, masscows. Though this is the only

techdeath band I've listened to (want to check out Cryptopsy though)This Message Edited On 01.05.08This Message Edited On 01.05.08

Cryptopsy's good albums aren't really tech death, but get None So Vile right now.

I dunno man, NSV definitely brings a good bit of tech-death elements to the table.

I'd say it's brutal death metal.

Phil Anselmo, Shred Metal, what does that even mean?

Stabwound is the worst track on the album, for sure. Shattered Future I don't understand, how can you say the album is boring if you havn't listened to a whole track from start to finish?

Diminished to Be is amazing.

Eww dude you've got it so backwards. The main riff to Diminished to Be is so obnoxious.

Because sweep arpeggios might sound cool but they're really boring and uninteresting if overused. Plus the song is really poorly arranged.

LOL
This band is technically just exquisite.
I haven't heard every song on this album yet, but most of them.
They are incredible.
