And the news reports on the radio
Said it was getting worse
As the ocean air fanned the flames.
But I couldn't think of anywhere I would have rather been
To watch it all burn away,
To burn away.

Gotta admit, I’m getting bored with these guys. This album is alright. Only DC album I’ve loved so far is Transatlanticism. I also really like The Photo Album, but every other album I like a handful of songs and am completely bored by the rest. Still gonna finish their discog but I really expected to love these guys. Just not completely my thing I guess. Listened to Codes and Keys for the first time today and, while it’s not bad, it’s like a lamer version of this imo.

I can understand that. I need to listen to this one again myself. Plans is pretty solid too but nothing quite as stunning as Trans.

That’s fair I guess man but I do insist that you may have gone a bit too fast with these guys, all of their albums (Trans included) grew on me over the course of years. Keep them in at least occasional rotation - albums like this and Plans may sneak up on you. The stuff from this decade actually is lame though.

And I mean, this has “Grapevine Fires”, “I Will Possess Your Heart”, “Cath...”, and “Your New Twin Size Bed” which are all among my favorite Death Cab songs, and there are a few other excellent songs too, so this is pretty indispensable as far as I’m concerned.

There are quite a few songs off this I really like — Bixby Canyon, Grapevine, Cath. I feel I did go a bit too fast but each individual album just wasn’t really growing anymore after a half dozen listens or thereabouts. I’m gonna keep re-visiting the next few weeks, but I gotta mix it up with other stuff. Maybe that’s why I was getting a little bored

Nah why didn't this review acknowledge how morbid this album is, definitely their darkest work. No fifteen year should have been listening to this at the time of its release (me)

This album is always a slog to listen to for me. But that opener is fantastic, and so is the closer (and a few good ones in between). Prefer Codes and Keys overall, has more character to it.

Long Division channeling them Photo Album vibes is always a treat. My personal highlight on here, maybe for nostalgic reasons.
