You just know the truth, which is incredible, yet you also are vocal about it, which is more than I can ask for.

Poor Heritage and all the hate it wrongly receives...

I think it’ll have its time. That Storm Corrosion album is also lying in wait. Give it a few years once Opeth have called it a day and Wilson has turned into George Michael and both them albums will be revered.

I hope so! Could be the case yeah. A good note to call it a day on.

Neither this nor Heritage are anywhere near the top of my Opeth ranking but to an extent I can see why someone who likes one would like the other. I much prefer this though

Same, I've always felt that Orchid, Morningrise and Heritage have more in common than you'd think on first glance. All three of them meander a lot, are loosely structured. Even moreso than other Opeth albums.

I love a loose, meandering epic with moments that soar. It hits my sweet spot every time no matter what the genre or artist.

this is #2 for me and i like heritage more than a chunk of their other albums
it's partly the sound, since so much of the stuff between morningrise and heritage completely loses touch

My Arms Your Hearse is still ‘genuine’

Metal with something to prove.

Except for MAYH, yeah, MAYH is one of their most genuine records I'd say.

What do you mean with 'loses touch' by the way? In the emotions department?

i mean they're overly loud (mayh is guilty of this) and sterile (mayh is not guilty of this)

I've always felt that Heritage was the prog version of this. They both have a sinister kind of atmosphere to them that isn't really found anywhere else. Mysterious would be the word to sum it up. Incredible records.

Ah gotcha Shadow.

Agreed Luc, they're super mysterious and indeed very alike.

Haha yeah it is! That one hasn't clicked for me yet. It took some years after Heritage was released too, and now it's one of my faves, so who knows? I do miss the jazziness of Heritage and the excellent drumming, that was a noticeable step down on PC.

you guys should listen to anekdoten, they do the oldschool prog thing that opeth are trying these days but with better results imo

There is something fascinating about this album that opeth lost in the following ones.

Strangely, I'm more comfortable with Mikael's growls here than in my arms, your hearse.

That is indeed strange. MAYH is some peak level growling.
