I wonder if there's some sort of effect on Cornell's voice in Shadow on the Sun, because that screech at the end sounds so painful if there isn't.

This is one of those albums that's just a thing. Lumpen, there for no particular reason or certinaly not for any identifiable reason that anyone will have a vague interest in establishing why it's there.

It's fodder. It's 2000. Its post 2000 fodder.

Yeah "Like a Stone" was inescapable for awhile there, definitely reminds me of 2002-2004 era every time I hear it.

I was never a fan of Audioslave past this album. In fact I kind of hated them during my teenage years in the 2000s, considering them the poster-boy example of generic radio rock and how far it had fallen. Listening to this again for the first time in years and it's a really damn good album, I even genuinely enjoy listening to "Like a Stone" again after hearing it 12 trillion times when it came out, which will kill your love for even the best songs.

May need to revisit their other two albums now with Cornell's passing. The combo of his voice and Morello's guitar lift a lot of otherwise generic, average songs up.

I never really got into this project, but Like A Stone is one of my favorite Cornell performances. Something special about his restraint on that one.
