'agreed that it started happening after vaporeon but tbf i did specify that her homophobic era was more tasteful and those two are the albums i actually like'

I don't entirely disagree, even if I enjoy her arty stuff (as long as it isn't called Utopia, or a reasonable chunk of Medulla, or a fairly significant chunk of Volta... ?)

Referring to Vespertine as 'Vaporeon' makes way more sense than it should in my head, it must be the under-water album cover / production parallels. I shall endeavour to carry this forward and bestow it upon unsuspecting victims in the Bjork threads.

We Carry On might be my favourite song by Portishead. Has some NIN-influence, which I love. I might 4.5 this

in hindsight, I have no freaking idea why I only gave a 4 in the first place. there is only one song I don't seem to find amazing - and that's the more acoustic one (Hunter? I don't really pay attention to song titles). In comparison to Dummy, this is so much better cuz the instrumentals have way more space to breathe. I love Beth Gibbons, but I don't love omnipresent singers.

nvm, I 5'ed this. reflects my stance on Portishead's discog way better. They matured and tweaked and innovated their sound with every album

I love the momentum building within this thread, it’s out of control. If this carries on we’ll be awarding it all-time GOAT status circa 2025.

I hope we will! We're doing our best anyway. And the album/group deserves it.

I need more time to analyze and figure out the lyrics on this album since I am no native speaker and the vocals are sometimes quieter than the instrumentals (which is no bad thing). but Hunter is a little too monotone for me

Testing my new headphones with this beauty, if they can’t do it justice I’ll be chucking them out the window (okay maybe just sending them back instead).

Sennheiser HD 559, fairly entry level for people round these parts I’d wager. I fully intended on going a bit further towards the higher-end, but moving house / furlough bullocks put an end to that. Maybe I’m just a stingy bugger. My portable on-ears aren’t particularly comfortable to wear for longer periods.

Yep over ears are aesthetically shite and can be a bit of a nuisance for comfort but definitely the better sounding.

I’ll take in-ear when out and about every time.
