I've got a crazy amount of work for my physiology subject which I have to do this week, so reviews won't be coming soon. Full Circle and Straight Ahead, they are both awesome albums, many of PW's best songs come from these two albums. Broken, Fight Till You Die, Society, Alien, Victim Of Reality, American Dream, Badge Of Pride, You'll Never Make It. Haven't heard the new No Use yet.

Straight Ahead is definitely their best. I haven't listened to this yet but I'm not keeping my hopes up. Yo check out my NUFAN review Randy, lemme know what you think.

Real good review. I got the album right after I read it. I've always been a big fan of Pennywise. My first cd ever was Unknown Road way back in 94 I think it was. This is the first Pennywise album that I didn't eagerly anticipate coming out. All the myspace hype, and not being a huge fan of the last 3 albums (land of the free, from the ashes, fuse) I just wasn't expecting anything special. This album reminds me of how Pennywise sounded back in the day. For sure the best Pennywise album in years. Gave it a 4.5 for making my year so far in music.

The people that seem to like this one a lot seem to be the people like you and me who didn't really like those 3 albums, and who were really into the older stuff.

I listened to this the whole way through last night for the first time. Really it's not that good. Some of it is carbon-copied from their previous work. Now while people blab on about "all PW songs sound the same blah blah blah", what I'm talking about is actual vocal lines and choruses where I was going 'that seriously sounds like a song off of Full Circle'. That really kind of annoyed me. There are some good songs on here. Certainly not 15 of them though.

And I really am much less fond of Jim's voice than I have been in the past. He sings like he has a lisp. Not sure if he does or not in normal speech, but yeah, Jim's voice isn't nearly as convincing as it was in the '90s. And the lyrics are pretty clichéd... and while most lyrics are clichéd, most of the album is ambiguous sentences that really don't say anything. Like we only have one chance, open your eyes, what's your reason?, these themes are said in different ways ad naseum.

Ah well, I'm going to see Pennywise (along with The Vandals, Sum 41 and Bowling For Soup) on Monday night. Hopefully they play some older stuff. I really loved this band. Look at my username. But yeah, they peaked almost a decade ago. This isn't a bad album, but it's certainly no Full Circle. Eh, it's not a bad album, I guess I'll rate it a 3, maybe a 3.5 if it grows on me a bit... Not vintage 'Wise.

I have picked up direct vocal melodies and riffs being played on this album that I

recognize from other albums (although I couldn't specify like you have), but I wasn't

too concerned since it was free.

And their lyrics have always been pretty vague and directionless... Fuck Authority?

They've always been about directionless rebellion, really. I do agree that they

definitely peaked about a decade ago... my disappointment comes from NUFAN's new

one, actually. This Message Edited On 04.09.08

I hadn't actually heard this band before, but I saw the promo on Myspace so I was like "Why not?". I'm really glad I did get it. It's not a ground breaking album or anything, but it's an energetic fun album. It does seem to suffer from some filler though..especially "Brag, Exaggerate, and Lie".

The 'Wise were on top of their game on Land Of The Free? and even though some folks did not like From The Ashes, I thought it almost topped off LOTF.

The Fuse didn't do anything for me, but I will give this a go. I still love ya Pennywise and Mr Punk Rock Dad =P

I dont really enjoy punk at all but Pennywise is really good. A guy I work with blows his load to them... so it grew on me (not the load).

The production makes this album, which if I try to ignore the HORRIBLE production, LOUDNESS WAR TO DA MAX SHIT, The first 2 songs and Western World are amazing.

But I think I know why Jim left after this, he wrote lyrics to a song in a way he said he never would, a love song, the last one, Die For You is to his wife..goddamnit.

I just got About Time on red vinyl. I'll never speak of Pennywise again. That's the best one. Jason was the best song writer and he wrote most of this one and 3/4 of the self titled, Fletcher wrote more on Unknown Road but I'm sure Jason had his say on arrangements and all, cos Unknown Road is the one that sounds like no other, I wonder what it was like for Byron to try to drum interestingly like he did on Unknown Road on those 3 shows, 3 first album nights they did at some clubs in Cali lately...
