Flittering in and out and disposing of classics like the soulless, mindless consumer whores you all are.

"Flittering in and out and disposing of classics like the soulless, mindless consumer whores you all are."
best lyric on the record
always good to see a good case for why the good canon ain't the good canon, but also everyone on the last page listens to total bullshit so imma hedge my bets

'I'd rate it higher if it wasn't for this string of songs which I don't really care for
6. Karma Police 7. Fitter Happier 8. Electioneering'
pretty based take to be honest, Electioneering has been discussed ad nauseam as a weak point but that doesn't make it untrue. Karma Police is fairly bland. It neither injects any (potentially) needed energy at that point nor comes close to replicating the subtle delicate majesty heard elsewhere. By far the worst of the singles. I'm not bothered that Fitter Happier exists, it's fine for what it is. Whether an interlude is needed at that juncture is debatable however.

I want to give this another once over to see if it can prove me wrong but I'm also quite certain it needs dropping... not like I haven't heard this a zillion times before, just been a while since I dusted it off

Album's biggest misstep is closing with its weakest track. Alas, apparently said misstep is not quite large enough for me to lower my rating further.

Tourist in the context of the album as a whole is the absolute perfect closer.

No way is it the weakest song imo

The Tourist is one of the better songs, and this is my favorite album and love every second of it. Well, aside from the robo voice one.

Robo voice one in the context of the album as a whole is the absolute perfect interlude.

Subterranean is a masterpiece and arguable best-RH song imo. That distinction obv changes a lot over the years and right now I might put Weird Fishes above it, but man I’m going on a solid 10+ years of constant admiration for Subterranean and never get tired of it
The audio engineering/production is kinda mind blowing (and even more-so when remembering it’s nearly 30 years old)
