I'm guessing you don't consider Jane Doe metal, then?

Megadeth is pretty hit-or-miss but Rust in Peace is seriously a flawless heavy metal (well, thrash) album. it just rocks so hard.

and na, Jane Doe is hardcore/metalcore, i don't consider it metal despite its levels of heavy

Now that i think about it I don't think I have heard many metal records that don't have some sort of other elements, like most of the "metalic" things I listen are punk with metal elements or music from some other genre that just happens to be heavy

I think I need more metal albums in my life

it kind of sucks, grindcore is one of my favorite genres but there aren't that many records that are of 5 caliber. There's Need To Control, which i'd put on par with most death metal classics, but there aren't many more. there are plenty of 4.5's though

grind is awesome but yeah ive never been able to 5 a grind record. Inalienable Dreamless and Insect Warfare come close though

i still need to check Brutal Truth, every time I get my hands on a link something gets in the way :/

yeah Need To Control is basically the Obscura of grindcore. incredibly bizarre, technical, and creative which is a rarity for the genre.

Prowler in the Yard is close to a 5 but it's not really what comes to mind when i think of 'true' grind

naked city is also amazing but same thing as prowler, sort of a combination of genres

naked city grinds hard no doubt, but it's not really a grindcore record. not really a record of any single genre really.
