I'm most excited for the new Bloodbath and Necrophagist. Eluveitie is in my top 5 so far, love how the celtic stuff meshes.

Such an awesome album.
The guitar part at 4:11 is the most mysterious thing i've heard in a long time. It really gives me this weird feeling, and the solo after it just pushes me back into reality. Simply amazing.

of bleed.
I agree dude, that break (and the following solo) really makes the song intense. I mean it's intense anyway, but that just multiplies it. I think this album is excellent, but if I gave Bleed it's own rating, it'd be like 47/5. Track is bananas.

The drumming on the album is pretty sick. checked the dude out on youtube and he is pretty awesome.

Cant get into this atm. I like what they do in small doses but I struggle to listen to whole songs nevermind a whole album.

Great review tho

Just got this. Pretty awesome album. Dancer, Bleed, Pravus, and Combustion are my favorites. The only tracks that didn't particularly stand out to me were Lethargic and Electric Red (though it has a cool name)

What album should get next?

Destroy Erase Improve then Nothing. It will probably be in my top 10 of 2008. Combustion, Dancers, Bleed, Obzen and Pravus are great Meshuggah song. Dancers would be an crazy closer for a live show. I hope they will record a live DVD soon.

This sounds half decent, actually. Chaosphere is horribly drab and Nothing is slightly better but not by much.

That intro riff to Combustion is awesome...loving this album.

And I actually got one of my friends to like Meshuggah! I think that's cool cuz he listens to bands like "The Killers" mostly, though he does like Nightwish.

I didn't say there was, I like them more than most mainstream rock bands. I just

thought it was cool he was listening to something less accessible.

Well, my main guilty pleasure is Sum 41. I also like Trapt a little actually, though I

haven't listened to any of their albums since 06 according to itunes.

:edit: the only albums I listened to today were this and Akeldama, 4 for Akeldama

and 5 for this lol. I'm considering raising this to a 4.5.This Message Edited On 03.13.08

Is Meshuggah a Death Metal band?

^ Not really. I have them as technical metal on iTunes. But then again they have jazz fusion and progressive elements now and then.

This is very impressive. After having listened to this numerous times now I can conclude that Bleed is one of the best they've written yet. That song really shows what Fredrik and Mårten are capable of as guitarists. Not to mention Haake!

Like on 'I', their influences from films & books etc. really are present, especially on This Spiteful Snake; Sounds like something taken directly from Predator.

I also like the fact that you can't tell the difference between the drum kit from Catch Thirtythree and this (apart from the approach taken on some songs) now that Tomas is back behind the kit. He's indeed a machine.

More like country and pop!

Honestly DirtyS4nch3z, you can read my fucking mind. I've been playing that song at least 10 times a day for the last week. The drumming on this album alone wins them an award!

Oh, I was reading an interview with these guys in Revolver Mag. Haake was saying that it took him 5 months to practice and lay down the triplets on his double bass on the song Bleed. They were also saying that some of the songs were so complicated to play in the studio that they have no idea how they're going to recreate them live. Fuck!

^Yea, I'm still waiting for some YouTube vids to see this (Bleed particularly) being executed live with my own eyes.

No offense but all these feelingless tiresome wankery guitarists with sweeping n shit alongside those 271 BPM blastbeat drummers can go home. That song takes technical riffing/drumming to a new level. And the precision is just inhuman.

Meshuggah sure isn't a classic death metal band in the sense of Morbid Angel is a death metal band.
