My wife is listening to Meshuggah for the first time. Combustion. This ought to be interesting.

Not a fan of the vox. She looked like she was enjoying it, then I realised she had switched to Astronoid. xD

@TheSonomaDude: No, nothing is (ha ha). Nothing is their best imo.

I even gave Nothing twice as much of a chance as I gave this, but it still bores the shit out of me. Feels like such a step down from Chaosphere.

Accurate take. Chaosphere is the only album from these guys I bother with now.

yeah, i even remember digging catch thirtythree and koloss when i did my runthrough recently, but chaosphere is about as good as it gets for me. outside of those three albums, it's just not really something that does much for me. that listless, robotic feel doesn't do the band any favors, and it just starts getting grating after you've listened to three or four albums from these guys in a fucking row.

I feel as though they really committed to the insane robotic repetition in Chaosphere, to the point where the grooves are hypnotic and those qualities help embed the tracks into your mind. A lot of people feel that way about all their material, unfortunately I don't.

Yeah, I feel that way about basically all of their releases. One of the most addicting bands I know of.

Chaosphere is peak yeah. The band created their own language. (even melodic language something few bands have done, nevermind in metal) I can definately understand not liking the new releases as they build melodies from very basic patterns. The lack of evolution in their sound is more apparant to people becuase of this. Its often a complaint that their songs are very "samey"
