I haven't listened to Ahab much lately, it grew a little old.

Yeah, i can see how, with all the great doom you've been finding. I guess I'm just attached to it cause it was my first.
Did you by chance see my sound off for Antithesis of Light? It's probably pretty similar to what you felt the first time you listened to this.

I actually read that, saw it on the mainpage. I haven't listened to it enough to rate that yet, but it hasn't struck me as much as it did you.

I'll be the first one to admit that Dooom wins on atmosphere (which is arguably the most important aspect of doom metal). This album hypnotizes me, and totally like zones me out, but I don't know, something about that album just...makes me want to die. Haven't listened to it for some time because of that.
My apologies if I'm cluttering your review, but my girlfriend fell asleep on my chest while I was listening to Antithesis; at the end of every song, her breathing rate increased, and when I woke her up when it was done, she said "God, I feel horrible..."
Kind of freaked me out.

Haha that is pretty scary. And you're not cluttering at all, don't worry about it. We're discussing the band so I see no problem.
I completely agree with you on the atmosphere, it feels like there's a lot going on behind the music, it's incredible. This Message Edited On 04.17.08

You're making me want to listen to this again lol.
I spun this while playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (know it?), whilst dungeon crawling, and it was scarily magnificently perfect, even for the combat.
I've probably said this in so many words before, but my basic personal opinion of this album is more like a 3.5 to a 4. But when this monstrosity finally finishes and I reflect on how I (or rather it made me) feel (just like with Evoken), it's an EASY 4.5
|
| |
(know it?) Yeah I do, haven't played it though. One of my friends is obsessed with it though.

That low? I would go as far as saying maybe it's a 4.5 and then the last .5 my own personal love for it, but that's probably it. But then again, I'm pretty biased towards the album,

^^^See, you admit it FANBOY!
Nah lol j/k, I should be one to talk, but seriously, it may SEEM low, but I have a really small number of 4.5's and 5's, and most are given their high rating very much due to personal preference. Not the most objective way to rate albums but it's what I do ;)
When I compare this album on a very basic level to all the other doom I've heard, the instrumentation, the song structuring, the vocals, ect, strike me as great, excellent even, but not astounding. Then Worship dumps a truck-load of that unbeatable atmosphere on me and, just like any of my other 4.5's, I LOVE it.
That may seem like I'm saying that this is a 3.5-4 w/o the atmosphere, which is a ridiculous notion, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I expect a strong atmosphere from doom, so when one is present, it doesn't add to my rating much. These guys give me the bastard child of superman and the incredible hulk and he then punches me into dust. My sincerest sentiment. This Message Edited On 04.17.08

Haha loved the metaphor. That's fair enough. The atmosphere is king on the album. On a side note, I posted the link to the review on the official Worship forum, and Pharos likes it :D

King? More like Supreme Being lol ;)
And that's fucking awesome dude, can you give me a direct link? I wanna see it up there.
And I'm really glad you liked my KYPCK review btw, you've written some truly inspiring reviews (this one) so it means a lot to me. Much obliged to you for looking it over, will post it probably tomorrow night.
|

no worries dude, I look forward to seeing it up. I'll rate it after you post.
Here's the link: http://worship.munichmetal.de/
but the review isn't posted there, i just posted a link asking him to have a look at it and see what he thinks, he replied earlier today.

ahh, okay, that's really cool as well.
I used all of your changes btw.
I'll rate it after you post
I know you're gonna keep me in suspense, but why do I have the feeling it was like a 3 for you lol

I haven't decided a rating yet! However, the very best I'd give would probably be a 4, but I'm still going to give it more listens.

lol, I got you. It's definitely not uber-powerful, but boy is it fun.
Unlike this album. Enjoyable yes (in a way, but even that's not the right word) but not fun. If someone had "fun" listening to this album I would have to beat them.
Edit: Somehow this convo has reminded that I have another recommendation for you, I'll e-mail you with some spewage about it sometime soon. This Message Edited On 04.17.08

I still can't decide between a 4.5 and a 5. It's that good. Some of the melodies here are just intense. Funeral Doom really isn't my territory, but I think it's safe to say this is in the top 5 albums of the entire genre.
|
| |
Yeah it's basically my favourite doom album, and one of my favourite albums altogether. It definitely is very intense. If you like this so much maybe you should check out Last CD Before Doomsday.

First listen around I didn't really care for this, but now I'm starting to enjoy it...a lot
|
| |
To be honest I was like that as well. I first bought it with a huge amount of excitement, and on my very first play I was like, 'so this is it?'. But then I put on some big headphones, and lay down and listened to it a second time and it struck gold.

The one song on their myspace page is amazing. That nice little guitar line that glides over the omnious powerchords is moving in a way.
