I don't understand why every metal band with female vocals are compared with Evanescense. Personally, I don't see anything remotely similar with them or Epica.

@Hawk, you would like Daylight Dies, im sure and Brave Murder Day from Katatonia.

To Hawk: Yeah, I like them a lot (Ahab). Some seem to feel their too repetitive even for doom, but I don't hear it really. I find them a good deal more engaging than most doom. One thing I've noticed about the genre is that the drummer is usually not doing all that much (especially in Funeral Doom). Not a problem for Ahab. Evoken is really good too.

To Balls: Hey......shut up, I hear it okay!?!? lol ;). Seriously though...This Message Edited On 03.16.08

Ok. I've been wanting to check out Ahab for a really long time, but i just never did. Is Call Of The Wretched Sea their only album?

Yes, as far as I know. It's much slower than this, that's for sure. This Message Edited On 03.16.08

As good as Doom is going to get for me most likely.

You need to hear Turning Season Within than. It completely spanks this. Tighter riffs, stronger melodies, more metal than doom, and greater vocals on both sides of the field.

I'm about to listen to Turning Season Within right now. Hopefully I like it as much as this.

Turning Season Within was a disappointment. Its first two songs were good, then none of the others stood out, unlike Arcane Rain Fell.

I would say that's a weird statement considering a lot of this album is skippable

Turning Season Within >>>this but Death, Come Near me >>> any song on T.S.W. That album is much better mostly because there are actual riffs, and improved vocal transitions.

A lot on this album is skippable? There isn't a moment of this album I don't like. A Scenery of Loss is the best doom metal song I have ever heard, and Heaven Laid in Tears and Death, Come Near Me come pretty close. The other songs are good additions to the album as well. The only song that's even close to skippable is The Apostasy Canticle.
