I purchased this album yesterday, and it is highly above average. These guys are slightly in a league of their own, which is good in my books. Mixing thrash-like stuff with keyboards and black metal vocals (I don't care how weak black vocals they are compared to other bands, it's still black metal) I didn't think it would be appealing at first, but it is.

4/5

Oh man, don't get me started on this album. I fucking love it, it is easily their best album. Follow the reaper, Taste of my Scythe, Bodom after Midnight and Hate Me are my personal favourites. If you don' have this GET IT.

Every single song is amazing. An easy 5/5. In fact, this band has never put out a single album that isn't asskicking.

Definetly better then my first one. I have always been interested in Children of Bodom because I've seen tabs and Alexi looks amazing, but I've never really heard them. You have convinced me to buy a Bodom cd.

First (and i still think best) Children Of Bodom album i bought. It was either this or...i dunno what i wouldve bought instead, but w/e.

Terrific album from all aspects...solos, vocals, rhythms.

And as for the genre...stop the goddamn specifiying. They are METAL, plain and simple

Alexi is quite talented indeed. The guy is like 23 and hes Guitar World's future virtuoso and has been compared to Steve Vai and Zakk Wylde. Something that pisses me off a little is the lack of recognition the keyboardist gets - he certainly deserves it!

PS the new guys name is Roope Latvala (sp) or so i heard.

Kissing the Shadows is the best song, followed by Bodom after Midnight and Mask of Sanity because of the guitar/keyboard work.
That's funny, my band also covered Kissing the Shadows. And does it really matter what the fucking genre is? Quit getting rabid about black metal/power metal/scandinavian vampiric deathray power faggot metal. It doesn't matter what CoB is called as long as they rock my balls off, which they do all day. COB ROCKS!!

First of all let me say THANK GOD THERE IS SOME NEW GENUINE TALLENT ON THE GOD DAMM BLOCK i am so sik of bands that use drop D crunch rifts its so anoying when i first heard childern of bodom i was memsemerised by the guitar lines but the vocals took time i think there most probly a aquired taste (as many of you feel the same way opon first listen)but this album compares to "kill em all"by metallica just the in your face guitar lines its amazing i think it would be a treat to see childern of bodom live, and personaly i think alexi is going to be the next dimebag darrel(god bless his soul may he rest in peace)

Excellent album, favorite is probably Kissing the Shadows. Anybody get a version with their cover of Hellion?

If this album is Black Metal to all of you, then why is it under the power metal album reviews?

imense album, i'd say death metal. not as heavy black metal and just falls below thrash. + their lyrics are linked to death e.g. everytime i die. but at the end of the day it doesnt really matter. sub genres suck a$$.

It's not black metal, it's power metal with harsh vocals.
