Ok after listening to the T/T about 10 times through I seem to have a vague understanding of what's happening. He starts off by playing some sort of motif for the rest of the piece, then proceeds to play what sounds like strange arpeggios for a while. It seems to elude being in any sort of key and as soon as I can pick out anything that sounds like a melody in any sort of key, he's seemingly already changed keys and is playing something else.

Yeah man, listen to Kind Of Blue. One of the best albums ever and quite accessible too.

Or Horace Silver - Blowin' The Blues Away

Very upbeat and superb.

Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out is considered a classic for beginners (hate that definition though), the tracks Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five are very famous and catchy and the production is so good.

I need to compile a jazz listen-list on here. There are still many classics I haven't touched yet

Could be a sweet list for people to drop their recs too. Sputnik could use some jazz refresh.

"I need to compile a jazz listen-list on here."

That wont make a difference.

...make a difference in what? I'm just saying I need to make a list for me to keep track of all the jazz classics I need to listen to. And as sabrutin said, others can drop some good recs too. What are you trying to say?

"Sputnik could use some jazz refresh"

I thought you were agreeing with this. My bad, I should have been more clear and quoted both.
