Drummer is fantastic and i agree with Spanish being a tough fit on the album. I think after the break in Ileyana would have been a good spot for it tho. This Message Edited On 02.01.08

Yeah Pridgen is a beast but the production on the drums on many of the tracks is pushed back behind the noise. Shame, as I would have loved the crisp sound from De-Loused and Amp (yes, you heard right!).
It's funny how De-Loused (1st) and Amp (3rd) have a clear and full production, and Frances (2nd) and Bedlam (4th) have a rather hollow and noisy yet still great production - Just my humble observation.
I think I need to stop thinking and start listening to this again..

Notice something?
Every great band in history had a great dividing line between the fans and haters.
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Rush, etc. etc.
Bands you either love or you hate...the great polar dividing line. The Mars Volta have a heavy dividing line, and since they're definitely a great band...well, you get it.

| |
Polarization is a myth. The reason that opinions sometimes appear polarized is because those who feel strongly about the album or band one way or the other are most inclined to vocalize their opinion.
I, for example, don't hate or love The Mars Volta.

They don't.

Why does every progressive band have a high pitched vocalist?
Most of the prog I listen to is prog metal, and none of those bands have high pitched vocals (Opeth, Tool, BTBAM). Porcupine Tree isn't really metal and Steve Wilson isn't a high pitched vocalist.

So, I'm half-way through this album, and it's already my favorite Volta album. This may be a hasty statement, but damn this is good.

No worries bro. The second half is just as strong if not better.

What are your favorite songs Chan

Goliath is quite delicious in my ear-hole.
|
| |
Yah even though I think the second half is great, Goliath as an individual song pwns the later songs.

Yeah, it seems like every time I try to sit down and listen to the album, I get stuck on Goliath. Such a great song.

cavalettas is pretty disappointing.....it has cool parts but it just kind of loiters for 10 minutes and never really builds up any momentum.

Rofl ^.
Just got a burned copy of this from my friend today. Haven't listened enough to give it a firm rating yet, but it's good stuff.

This is my first TMV album, and I'm very impressed. Judging from the comments, I should check out De-loused and Frances the Mute also.

"Goliath" is so sick.
I like thie album, it's nowhere near the first two LPs but it's way better than Amputechture and it has a lot of energy. Recording isn't too bad either. This Message Edited On 02.04.08

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree that it's just as strong. I can't seem to single out a song yet, as they're all really good. This is at least a 4. Rating will probably go up... Soon.
