yeah that song is good, and it's just like every other song by them. Jangly atmospheric opening guitars, slow crescendo, those "marching band" drums etc. The only thing different about this song is that it doesn't have a huge climax.

and it's not nearly as well-produced as their later work

Nice little album, opener and closer are my favorite tracks here (they seem to be everyone's picks), but I felt overhyped for this. I sort of understand the criticism that it all does sound very samey in just one listen.

I think the album could be a bit better if there was anything interesting about it

Post-Rock by numbers.

But you know, sometimes those paint-by-numbers things come out looking pretty damn good too.

I would say go see them live, but I don't think it would be your cup of tea if you don't like the albums.

Seeing them live was definitely awe-inspiring though. (Though not as awe-inspiring as GY!BE. Kind of different sides of the spectrum though)

these guys dont even try? dafuq? this album was very original for its time. its not the bands fault theyve been copied so much. also their music is much more narrative than other bands of a similar style who condensed it into just the core repeated melodies.

This will always have that big nostalgia quality to it because this pretty much exposed me to post rock.
