I have both this and Mezzanine ranked the same. Both are equally impressive in their own unique way.

Their best album I would say... it makes more sense. You can listen the whole way through and not feel really fucking confused. Hah, in their previous albums I have liked all of the songs but really they are all over the place. That's what I like about 100th Window, it has a certain flow.

To be honest this album gets underrated mostly cauze of the big differences you see in it. You go from the massive starter of "Future Proof" to "Everywhen" and then quality of songcrafting drops, until it raises again from "A Prayer for England". I´m not saying "Special Cases" and "Butterfly Caught" aren´t good songs, but i do think that together with "Antistar" these could be the weakest ones from the album. "Butterly Caught" would fit more in a Radiohead album in my opinion. Lyrically talking only three tracks would seem inferior, those being "Special Cases", "A Prayer for England" and "Name Taken". Anyways, I do think this album is somewhat superior to "Protection" and "Blue Lines".

Can anyone recommend me an album similar to this (minus Massive Attack's other work).

Portishead is a logical next step if you haven't heard them. Try Dummy or Third.
