Their newer material isn't bad by any means, I just don't like it as much as their earlier albums. I feel like they perfected that depressive rock sound on Viva Emptiness (or as much as they could have anyway) and that album had a ton of personality while improving on the previous records in some regards. On the most recent records everything kind of blended together for me. But hey, you like what you like.

Viva is the only record of theirs that I didn't strongly enjoy. When I get married in October I'm just gonna have this album on repeat at the reception and depress everyone.

I want to like that record so much. I just find some riffs to be boring, which is never really an issue I have with Katatonia.
