Vocally yes, superior...far, far from it. That album is a dime a dozen in terms of alternative metal.

In general, their new sound is way too polished and the alternative rock vibes I get from it feel like I've heard them a million times before. It's still a GOOD album, just nothing spectacular.

So close to giving this a 5. This is some damn good stuff that sticks with me for the day.

I'm just surprised you say that about TGCD and not something like this, though this has a completely different vibe and no other band has a song like Instrumental

Besides the vocals, the two albums are light years apart. Plus, "Instrumental" just makes me want to cry hahaha. "Deadhouse" is the best song these guys have ever written.

Seriously: this is one of the best albums I have ever heard. I'll never forget first getting into it last August on a rainy Saturday afternoon. It was amazing!

I still think this is their best album!

Would this be a good place to start if I want to get into Katatonia? I expect Brave Murder Day would be and I should just go chronologically, but this has so many high ratings....

Brave murder day is essential. But id say go with tONIGHT'S decision First. Then Viva then this.

fuck no

their 2 worst albums

this first, then last fair deal, then night is the new day

tbh if you wanna go with like from the beginning of the band and see how they evolved i suggest going from square 1 and go from there

I'd say this one is the hardest to get into, too depressing, even for Katatonia's standards.

You can't go wrong with BMD and Last Fair deal...

An excellent album, and proof that katatonia are amazing without producing songs of massive length(Yes im referring to their debut album, which had two 13-minute tracks on). A really nice album, but can be tedious at times.

To me this is an awkward transition phase for Katatonia where they hadn't quite found their stride with the new direction. Renske sounds timid and unsure of himself as he struggles to hit notes, which is different than sounding melancholic. The songwriting and the riffs, while good, just doesn't seem the be up to the solid and memorable level of later releases.
