I prefer EGN, but I really think that's just because I know all of those songs by heart and I can put it on and sing along without really even paying attention to it. When I reach that point with this I may like it better. The quality is certainly better, I just don't get the same feeling from it.

Doppelganger: That's what you think.:p Try mic'ing a tuba and running it through a distortion pedal. It sounds epic. This Message Edited On 11.17.07

All those who blindly preffer EGN above this probably haven't listened to this album enough. It grows on you in ways never expected at first listens.

I'm not saying it's better, I'm saying you should forget EGN and enjoy this because it's certainly on the same level of greatness. I Agree with the songwriting feeling a bit lazy though but I don't see that as something bad.

How is lazy songwriting not bad? I mean personally I didn't chew Tom out too much for it; I gave him a 4.5. Still, when a guy who gets praised as a master songwriter writes so repetitively, it is somewhat troublesome.

Lazy songwriting is not bad as long as you call lazy songwriting to following a similar structure which is what you did. If someone wrote 100 songs with similar structure and each and everyone of those songs was awesome I couldn't care less if that someone used the same structural tricks over and over again.

Lazy songwriting here in this context is used as opposed to surprising songwriting and so there's nothing bad with it. After all, the riffs, grooves, melodies and such are pretty variable from one song to another.

A completely different thing would be lazy songwriting as in Pennywise where 90% of the riffs are sub-formed copies of other overused riffs with no originality whatsoever, and that, yes, would be a bad thing. This Message Edited On 11.18.07

Fix'd. Riffs don't make the song (not saying samey riffs can't make it suck,) the actual construction of said song does. In this case, however, it doesn't prove to be bad.

Yeah you have a point Serpento. Lazy songwriting is following a similar structure. But it also is following a similar pattern when composing parts of the songs which leads to composing riffs and such. And that was my point. This Message Edited On 11.18.07

This album sounds delicious. I rather like the stream, so I guess I'll have to get it.

EDIT: It makes me very happy. This Message Edited On 11.18.07

Ok. I have to say, I generally can't stand ska, but I haven't liked a ska band this much since I found out about RX Bandits, who barely qualify as ska anymore. I think what makes this album so good is the fact that it doesn't have too many generic ska riffs in it. And when it does, they're covered up with absolutely terrific horn lines. Vocals aren't great, but they're a bit better than most ska bands.

that would mean you would have to actually listen to the RX Bandits. That's just not fair.

Meh, never caught my attention personally. I'll find some new stuff and take your word for it, though.

Well the newest still is pushing into like heavy progressive ska (heavy as in, mainly progressive), but 'The Resignation' is probably the peak of their balance between ska and progressive music. In other news, this CD likes to not work in my car. what a fag it is.

having heard next to no streetlight manifesto before this, i'd give it 4/5 on first listen, but that'll probably increase with subsequent listenage. this is some mighty good shit, can't believe i haven't gotten into them before now.
