This is a good starting point yes. The others are a little more monolithic and daunting. Perhaps Koloss would be a great way in too, but many don't see that as one of their better works, although I don't agree.

Exactly. And would make for a nice, catchy, non-sloggish entry point I feel.

I say he should start from here (i did) or maybe with None, since that's like their true trademark sound debut, they upgraded their sound consistently with each album so imo the chronological release order is the way to go

if you start at contradictions collapse, you'll fully understand how much they've changed over the years even though they had a lot of their trademarks from the start

That is true of course, but you'll have to be in for the long run if you start there. It would certainly take some stamina to do that!

I have Koloss and Obzen, and there are some great songs on those, but I'm not just fully engaged with the album because their vocalist is super monotone.

i miss jen's hardcore screams, but he probably can't do them anymore

Ah gotcha! In that case, do check this, Chaosphere and Contradictions Collapse. They've never not ruled. Ever.

Pity that you don't enjoy Jens' vox as much, we hear that one more often. Perhaps one day he'll click for you. He's one of my fave harsh vocalists and has been so for years. The dude always delivers and has some seriously delicious sense of rhythm. This is usually the moment I think about when discussing how awesome Jens is: https://youtu.be/5_tndxTuouY?t=380

I love how they use his vox as another rhythmic layer, instead of being at the forefront and going crazy.

Exactly! That would totally distract from the grooves. Instead, his vox add something to the grooves, which is the best thing a vocalist could do for them. He's a crucial part of their sound.

Very true, they all bring something to the table and they're incredibly tight together. And they all write songs too.
