If you're going to rate some Opeth albums a 5, I think you picked the right ones ;)

not one of my favorites by Opeth, but still a good album.

This album is only looked down a little because Opeth have made so many metal masterpeices over the years. This album took me a little longer to appreciate than the others, but it is a great album. "Masters Apprentice" ranks at the top of my fav Opeth songs. And yes "Atonement" is their worst.

"On the flip side, the album fails where Akerfeldt and his men usually succeed. Expressing themselves."
No.
Good review Mike but I think you compare this to BWP and Damnation a little much. Another thing I don't understand is that even though alot of people say this is Opeth's weakest album, it was still better than every other metal release that year! How can people give it an average rating when the musicanship is far superior to most bands. Sorry Mike, I'm just being a fanboy, an opinion is an opinion and I'm not going to argue with it. You have my vote! This Message Edited On 10.20.07

My least favorite Opeth album, but its still pretty great. Your review was great, as much as I like Opeth, people who say they're the pinnacle of modern music are just annoying.

Damn, what's with all the Atonement hate. I think it's a pretty good song, especially for what it was supposed to be. It's just a relaxing tribal-sounding song. Makes me think of a desert sunset. Definitely not their worst.
Anyway, excellent review, but I've only hear A Fair Judgment and Deliverance from this album. I didn't really like A Fair Judgment, but Deliverance owns.

Eakflanderyof, get this album now! You may not like AFJ but rest of the album is kick ass pure. 'About twice the rating this reviewer rated it, for me.
