This may not be the most influential jazz album ever, but Jaco Pastorius has influenced every bass player who has ever heard him. So maybe we should refrase this. Most inflluential bass player ever.

I'm going to say the most influential jazz album is Kind of Blue by Miles Davis.

Jaco is an amazing player, but I still can't seem to be amazed with this album. His tone kinda bugs me, how it's so plain. He set the precedent for electric bass, definitely, but I have yet to love his music.

Jaco was without a doubt the greatest bassist of his time. His debut album is definitely outstanding, and showed a lot of potential for what he could have continued to do. It's too bad he got himself bashed over the head by some bouncer trying to get into a club.

I loove Jaco, and this was a great reveiw. However I would go as far being more specfic saying Jaco is "The Best 4-string bassist" and the most influential "fretless bassist" Check out Bassists Jean Baudin and Stew McKinsey. The tapping bass is really starting to become popular now. The nine, 10, 11 string basses, not as popular as of yet but we'll see...

Digging this guy recently. He's quite the bassist. I definitly need some of his stuff.
Is this guy hailed as an amazing bassist? Just wondering because I found out about him by accident and have heard nothing but opinions from the random posts I've read on here and you can't always trust a fanboy. This Message Edited On 12.23.06
