^^ you and me both. One of my top b.m records. The emotion portrayed is intense. Actually, i've never been wrapped around any black metal song like Vastness And Sorrow.

It bored me the first few listens. I knew I'd like this eventually, I loved "Diadem..." but it just took about an hour alone to sit down and actually pay attention in full to this. "I Will Lay Down My Bones Among The Rocks And Roots" is brilliant. This Message Edited On 07.27.08

Diadem was pretty tough to get into at first. I eased into this pretty well.

I actually found Diadem was a very easy album to like. I still like it better than this, but not by much.

Maybe it was because I wasn't used to long songs when I heard it.

Easiest black metal band I've ever listened to. 'I Will Lay Down My Bones Among The Rocks And Roots' has me from the opening clean chords. Amazing, amazing stuff.

Nope, just three days ago I thought the same, and had this rated at a 2.5. Let time take its course.

I dont think I'll ever love this though tbh. I used to listen to this a lot and I couldnt see it ever being a 4 or a 4.5 for me. I dont know though. I might give it a few more listens.

The female vocals in 'Cleansing' give me the chills. I think this album represents everything I like about black metal down to a every minute detail.

post metal + atmosphere + black metal = the_wizard one happy dude!

This is a great record. I actually enjoyed this more than "Diadem". They have a knack for creating atmosphere but unlike the murky production values of most BM records you can still hear everything including the double bass. It's quite the spectacle.

^^^Agree with you completely.

Only things that keeps this album from a 4.5 for me is the snare is too loud and they blast (beat) too much.

What kept it at a 4 for me was the intro track. It's good, but it seems too long and drawn out.

Yeah, the first track isn't too good. The last track, however, is insane, and makes this album a 4 practically by itself.

So you're saying it's the only good track?? For shame!

You mean you spent all of this time listening to "Two Hunters" when you could have been out in the forest acting like a troll? For shame! For shaaaaame!

The first real track on here, Vastness and Sorrow is my fan favorite of the album. And trolling through forests are a ton of fun, who hasn't at one or several points in their life?

Lol no, not at all, V&A and Cleansing are both awesome. I'm just saying that this album could have been 20 minutes of entirely and only Lay Down my Bones and I would have still given it a 4

The whole album pretty much encompasses what is good about BM.This Message Edited On 07.28.08
