@boney i broadly agree with that, but i think the nuance is that the albums i posted on the last page weren't anything close to what i'd consider a full or canonical list of Electronic Music Better Than Kid A; the point is more that just about anyone could dig further into the appropriate subgenres and most likely surprise themselves with how much they came up with and how much more it informed their experience of kid a.
people, now as before, consider it a remarkable album for how it bridged the worlds of alt/indie and electronic, but i think that if anything that legacy is a little underwhelming for how few of them it inspired to follow suit; just think of how unprepared so much of radiohead's fanbase were for TKOL's more intricate layerings and enigmatic atmosphere back in the day.
i'm not accusing you or anyone else of consciously overrating it or trying to misrepresent electronic music through it, but it seems ridiculous that one of the most visible and acclaimed electronic albums of all time got to that position by occupying a favourable station within the discog of a band whose fans are largely unconcerned with the style as a whole. it's overrated in that sense; i don't think it cheapens its worth to say that its merits aren't that significant a factor in how it came to benefit from that consensus
