I think that any hype you heard about this album was generated by Victory Records. ANything BTBAM brought to the table was the music.



Also for every good riff there are 20 bad ones? What does that even mean. You didn't count them out. What riffs are good and where are the many many preceding bad riffs that cancel out these good riffs? Also, this isn't really a riff based album so why not complain about different aspects of the guitar playing.

I think the thing is if you're going to tackle an increadbly hyped/much loved album, you either do it fantastically well, or not at all. Anything remotely in between and you WILL get torn apart, regardless of whether or not the hype is justified. This review is just that, well-written and all, but not fantastic, which is the standard you're going to be judged on when you write a review like this.

i don't even see how half the points in this review can be justified. 30secs of goodness in each song?! listen again and you'll hear the way the sound has peaks and troughs, whether those extremes are heavy/soft, or slow/fast, or atmospheric/brutal. sure, it's a simple tool in the use of dynamics, but the point is, it's effective. at the VERY LEAST, if you're being incredibly harsh on it, this record is a 3/5.
