watched "Breadcrumb Trail" documentary last night, pretty interesting stuff i honestly didn't know the band had so much history/mysticism within their scene
yeah this is one of the harder 5s in life

That documentary is so precious. I didn't catch any sleep the night I watched it, and had the most comically terrible day after (public screening inc. a film I made + disliked, lots of booze, an ex, couple of bruised heels yada yada) but regret none of it for how spellbinding that time/place snapshot was

this holds a unique position, for me, in that i liked it immediately - like, 4-4.5 liked - and it continued to grow and honestly still is [2]

yeah the documentary was brilliant. this was already a classic for me and i wasn't even aware of the album's background. the whole bits with Steve Albini are really fascinating, young kids but clearly onto something special and knew what they were doing
also given how organic these songs sound i'm not surprised to hear that a lot of them were created by jamming the same riff for literal days on end as a band and slowly tweaking / adding layers as they went. true earworms

There are obviously a ton of albums that were "way ahead of their time," but whenever someone asks that question I always default to either this or Drive Like Jehu's YANK CRIME. Two albums that would feel fresh if they were to come out last year. Just crazy they were both in the early 90s.

Outside the production, could probably say the same for Laughing Stock, so many people cribbing influence but the magic stands alone
