this is really awful, its so slow and passionless. Perhaps I was looking for Witness again, but this is just painful, I mean, where the hell has Eaton's vocals gone? He sounds so fucking bored on this album.

Album is awesome. Ironic that nimrod finds this boring, but Drive Like Jehu interesting. Should've figured.

These Mad Dogs of Glory and Fuck the Sex Pistols are the two best on here I'm thinking, but Useless Generation and Nightshift at the Potato Factory are both kickin'. I also like Stagger Lee a lot.

My expectations for a band that supposedly innovated and shaped an entire genre that I enjoy, are pretty high. Sucks they couldn't meet them.

But again, this isn't a DLJ thread, it's one about Modern Life is War, who unlike DLJ, are actually really awesome.

...?

Because I don't like Drive Like Jehu, and I find it astounding that someone could find this record boring and not be bored by 9 minute dirges into pretentious dissonance?

Man, I lost this argument!

I'm honestly questioning why it had to be started, considering that me disliking a band and making a snarky comment about them, isn't grounds for being called an elitist.

Well. I don't know what it is that turns me off, I'm def. not a big fan of his voice though. Instruments aren't bad though.

haha, jesus, DLJ are so irrelevent to this discussion.

But what I can give it over this tripe is that, at least they were passionate in what they were doing. To go from one of the most emotional, passionate, moving, exciting and as far as straight-up Hardcore is concerned, innovating records in 'Witness' to this is actually laughable. It's SO sluggish and passionless and boring.

And, it was elitist because you were looking down on my opinion because I liked a completely separate band who you find overrated. get over yourself.

Where do you see a lack of passion in this? Just to satisfy my own curiosity because I can't find anything on this that isn't as passionate as Witness on the whole. Eaton's vocals on this I think are just as passionate, if not moreso, than most of Witness.

haha, I quite clearly said in my post that DLJ are irrelevant and people carried on anyway =D

To be honest, I don't see how anyone can see this is anything but passionless and sluggish. It is honestly all I hear from this record.

It's funny because, this review opens with;

"Which brings us all to Midnight in America, an album that is neither any heavier than My Love. My Way or catchier than Witness, which seems to be the crux of the album."

To me, that's exactly what's wrong with it, it has no idea what it wants to be! And yet it still gets relatively positive reviews. madness.

It's toned down compared to their previous but it's still really good.
