Review Summary: Totally mental! If you want honest extreme thrash by a band that put their heart and soul and made a record like their life depended on it, get this for sure!
"Feel the Endless Pain!!"
"Pleasure To Kill" would never have been what it is without this album here which is filled with pure aggression!
This is Kreator's first full length album which was released in October of 1985. This album is totally chaotic, straightforward and extreme. The word that comes to mind, is "respect" because this is the honest endeavor of a hungry trio bursting with creative energy and anticipation, who although haven't yet sharpened their skills (or their English) to their full potential, they find themselves thrown in a studio where they are expected to record an album. Like fishes out of water, three teenagers leave their college behind, and are driven to CEAT studios in Berlin "with no f*ckin' idea" what to record.
The production is average, but it all just adds to the do-it yourself feel of the album. There are plenty of great riffs which are diverse in tempo and mood. The bass isnt prominent but its audible. The drumming on the other hand is quite prominent and very aggressive. The Vocals are quite good on this album. The drummer Ventor sings the first track and Mille sings the second, they sing alternate tracks on this album.
The lyrics arent very good, they yet had to perfect their English. For instance:
"..people die if he wants throne
And they fall down, down of their knees
Mercy is a world that he don't know..."
thats not very good.
All in all this is a great album!In your face Thrash. Lack of filler material and cheap tricks/frills. This is true thrash at its finest, the dawn of Kreator's career, don't overlook it.
Recommended tracks:
Endless Pain
Storm Of The Beast {VERY catchy}
Tormentor {a monster of a song from their demo}
Son Of Evil
Total Death
Flag Of Hate
Pros:
1. Pure raw aggression, the more you listen to it the better it sounds.
2. As Ive said, lack of filler material and cheap tricks.
3. Look at the album cover and the title of the album! Do I need to say more?
Cons:
1. They needed to sort out the grammar a bit but this isn't the problem on any of their other albums.
2. The production isnt very good.
Rating: 4.5/5
and that about wraps it up.
