Bob Dylan totally deserved it imo. Kendrick too. Awards like Pulitzer, Grammy, etc, have always been about artistry and don’t fuckin tell me these post-newspaper clickbait wokesters honestly give a shit about REAL ART. Come on man. Kindrick and Bob are actual risktakers. They put their soul on the lines, which is what Pulitzer is all about. Man we’re going down the shitter

@Vlac: Be mad at the award ceremonies. Be mad at yourself for caring what they do or don't do in the first place because it isn't like they matter or have ever mattered. It's often just self-fellating drivel for the bourgeois in-crowd and the scope of who they're even considering will always be limited based on that. Anarchist and leftist news sources I actually appreciate will go unsung for all time. Surely no journalist worth their salt is in their profession/passion for a Pulitzer. Surely no one digging and unveiling a human trafficking ring, bringing light to corruption, covering wars, or some such just does it for an award. Furthermore, if those musicians had a message that could affect or change anything, the way that they both surely have, why is it so criminal that they get a frankly ARBITRARY award for it? Surely the committees can give the award to whoever they want and there aren't a finite amount of them. What awards committees do isn't Kendrick or Bob Dylan's fault. It could even be, and probably was, done specifically to look good.

You've yet to outline even why he's overrated btw. I don't even particularly like much of his recent music. DAMN was the start of a clear decline for me and Steppers was just a hair above mid, but he has demonstrated technical ability to rival any rapper numerous times and has had the content within the bars to push his work that much further, along with actually demonstrating incredible songwriting ability. Plus, Kendrick was doing his thing for years before he blew up or got those flowers? Where did he get a major award for Overly Dedicated, Section 80 or Good Kid?

His lyrics are dishonest, how can he claim he cares so much about Black American communities in the US while signing a multimillionaire deal with Reebok? The man is a hypocrite and just wanted to be a superstar since the get go.

You're going to have to explain what Reebok specifically did to be anti-black? Maybe I'm out of the loop on that one. Otherwise, are rappers are in the wrong for being rich now? Sure, but no more than the rest of rich people and more so the system that creates haves and have nots in the first place. IIRC one of his shoe collabs was a red and blue thing to promote unity for Bloods and Crips and broker less gang violence. That tracks.

Yes, if people think Kendrick is so conscious and cares about the struggle of Black Americans he should do more than just to talk about it in his records only to get accolades. If he were the type of person who claims to be, he would be doing something with his agency. He could be helping struggling communities while providing something of worth, such as art lessons, he could teach kids music and how can that have a positive impact on their lives.

He literally has donated hundreds of thousands at least to Compton school districts alone, thousands specifically to music programs in the 2010s, with more to shelters and the like, but people had to dig that stuff up, the way you clearly haven't. There's an old interview where someone specifically asks about all the money he donated to his old school and he literally says that he didn't want that to get out. I don't remember specifically which one it was but I will literally find it for you if you need me to. He doesn't make announcements about whatever good deeds, he just does it. Doing a good deed on camera can be and often is disingenuous but just doing it for its own sake and going about your life is decidedly not.

It's in such bad faith to say he's dishonest in his music just for saying anything about his life and his views, especially when he was absolutely a black kid in gangland Compton before he ever got famous and would be subject to all the trials and tribulations that anyone else in his place would have. Surely everyone who makes music at least expects recognition if they believe in themselves. He got into music as an outlet the same way so many from hood do that never go anywhere and he's demonstrated that he has more talent than most. And he has more reason to be lauded than people like Playboi Carti or Drake or Future.

This is a super weird hill for you to die on, tbh.

I just don't like him. If you like him that's fine, furthermore, I didn't mean to disrespect you. It happens every single time I comment how I dislike some bands or artists, then, someone takes it personal as if I had offended them, even though, I just was expressing my opinion.

You're good, my friend. And you deserve to express your opinions. I'm just typing out paragraphs on sputnik because I have the empty time on my hands. Nothing I'm taking personally. If you've ever seen me talk on here over the years, you know I don't shy away from a debate on occasion. Quite frankly, even I'm underwhelmed by a lot of his recent material, even in terms of substantive subject matter. I just think he had a few milestones that were so peak that he doesn't have shit to prove anymore.
