Personally, I would disagree with your assessment of a few tracks individually, but as a whole, yes the band has effectively betrayed their original sound.
I think that Avalanche is by far the heaviest song on the album, and a great closing track. From the first ten seconds of the first time I heard this one I was asking myself, "Where was this on the rest of the cd?" Amazing.
Anemia in Your Sheets is pretty solid, and certainly heavy enough, but the overall highlight of the album for me would probably be Dropped From the Cherry Tree, which is stellar.
I do not dislike the more mainstream sound of some of their rock tunes, however. River Song is fabulous, even if similar to much of what other bands are doing. I don't believe that every band will innovate, but I do believe that this doesn't mean they're not writing good music.
The vocal layering and harmonies on this cd are stellar, and I love the composition of their guitars and keys; something about HOW this album comes together, rather than WHAT is coming together appeals strongly to me. The whole is more than the sum of the parts, in essence.
Is it worth buying? I think so, especially if very melodic metalcore is something you like. I, for one, enjoy a lot (but not all) of It Dies Today's Sirens, and I think this cd has a pretty similar sound.
Maria borders on awful, though. This Message Edited On 08.23.07

Maria actually is quite terrible.
First impressions can betray.

Of Love and Lunacy was amazing, The Serpent was just ok really. It disappointed me that it wasn't as heavy and well written as the last cd. At the same time some of the songs I really enjoy, I just don't feel like Im listening to Still Remains. Hopefully the next album moves closer back to the old style.

Good Review, however you should of prolly reviewed an album you could have been positive about. Negative reviews are never fun to read...well thats unless it's trivium. I must say it was well-written and you had a good word assortment.

WHY?WHY?WHY????????? What the hell is the point of only doing positive reviews? Very stupid comment.

My original idea as well. It's annoying how fanboys write their first review on some really underground album and give it a 5.
Bumped for awesomeness (review).

Good review, not the best, but that's partly because I like longer, more descriptive reviews.
I want to do a negative review on an album but most of the music I have I like...

I said it was a good review and I gave him a positive vote!
This was 1000 times better than my first, my personal preference is longer reviews that are very descriptive, I never said anything to suggest this was a bad review and it's very well written without being long.
|
| |
yeah i know, i thought you implied the review was worse because it wasn't long enough for your liking

Album Rating: 3.5
Nope, I was just stating my personal preference, I liked this review and I do think there were a couple of very minor things he could improve on but I'm 100% sure that he'll be a pretty damn good reviewer.
edit: btw, why do fan boys just neg people who give their album a bad rating, that pisses me off. This Message Edited On 09.01.07

Still Remains kinda disappointed me with this album but it's good otherwise. it's worth the listen. i expected the songs to be faster like on the "Of Love And Lunacy" album but most of the songs on this album are mid-tempoed and slowed down. it wasn't the Still Remains i know! can't say too many negative things becuase I met both Mike Church and Jordan Whelan! hopefully, they'll do better on the next album.
