The main problem I have with the Mars Volta is that they try too hard to come across as "over-the-top". Just one or two different ideas per song, instead of 500 and less "drama" would do this music some good. I still wouldn't like it though, I guess.

Overrated much? Yeah, I think so. Good stuff, and I do "get it", but wankery = wankery and this record is STUFFED with it. De-Loused eats this IMO.

EDIT: It's not for everyone, this style of music may just not be your taste. Funny thing is, while I'm reading your comment, I'm listening for the first time to De-loused in the Crematorium. From what I've heard of until now (Televators and Drunkship of Laterns) I love it very much.
I think those long songs put me of this record, they feel like for the sake of being long.

LOL not even close.
That goes to Bath by Maudlin Of The Well, in my opinion, or perhaps Lateralus. This album definitely has gaping flaws, period.

Frances > RoC > I/C/O = De-Loused > Acrobatic Tenement > Amputechture
Basically. I'd switch RoC with Casino though.
Good review bud. Album's a facefull of fantastic.

I can see where Strizz is coming from. I'd probably give this album a five if they just cut down on the pointless droning ambience that doesn't really add to the album at all.

love this album and all of TMV's stuff, except for Scab Dates well, naturally. they're horrible live.
Solid album but I like Deloused more.

I don't like this album. I really only liked their debut and not much else.

I have tried many times, but I just can't enjoy this band. Pity.

Well, I see how they try to be inventive and special, so that merits some credit.
LOL why did you bother responding.
In hopes for a fruitless argument or something?
Frances > RoC > I/C/O = De-Loused > Acrobatic Tenement > Amputechture. Zing! or something
Goes more like this:
RoC > I/C/O > De-Loused > Vaya EP > Frances > Acrobatic > Amputechture
And I responded because I disagreed with your opinion. I am allowed to do that, right? Hence, message board. You made a sweeping statement about the album's greatness that I (and a lot of others) disagreed with. This Message Edited On 07.27.07

But after voicing your opinion, you assholishly threw it out there again to a bunch of people who frankly don't give a shit. Your rating of a three made it pretty obvious you disagreed, so why go and waste your time being redundant and sounding like a bag of dicks?
And just throwing it out there, but Vaya sucks. Bye Bye now.

But your opinion that you've regurgitated in every other review for the album isn't the same exact thing? But since I disagreed (which isn't cool I suppose) it's not relevant to the discussion? Your incomprehensible excuse for logic is cute, I'll give you that, but seriously get over yourself.
And just throwing it out there, "Metronome Arthritis", "198d", and "Rascuache" are easily some of ATDI's best songs, and the rest of that EP is more than solid. So yeah sorry maybe next time.
