Edge of Sanity is quite good at producing ear sex. Crimson II is about as good as this.

Purgatory Afterglow.

Then Crimson II.

Of course, a lot of people will tell you to get the second Crimson, but I think PA is better.

Well, if Twilight is any indication (heard it off When All Is Said...) then PA is monumental indeed. Still need to check that out.

Twilight, Elegy, Black Tears, all of the first half is epic, some of the best songs EOS have ever written.

Oh Black Tears is off Purgatory? I love that song? There's like...no production at all on it or something but something about just makes me love it.

It's a fan favourite among EOs fans, it definitely does have that 'something' which makes it special.

I meant as a short song instead of this, obviously this is regarded as their crowning achievement.

Black Tears is like, the catchiest melo-death song ever.

Twilight is the best song on PA, but Elegy and Of Darksome Origin are aweome too. The last 3 songs are a big letdown though.

Our opinions on PA are practically identical, after Velvet Dreams it goes downhill until reaching Song of Sirens, which doesn't deserve to be on the album, had that been cut off and the previous two improved to the standard of the rest of the album, it would have been a classic for me without doubt.

I feel the only thing that brings this down is the production...i know this was made in 96 but it's kinda off...maybe a remastering is in order?

I don't see any problems whatsoever with the production, everything's clear, the keyboards are a bit low in the mix but that's extremely minor, I also feel the whole feel of it is just amazing, and just adds to the atmosphere tenfold.

Anything in particular you don't like about the production? What do you mean by 'kinda off'?

Don't worry about me shooting you down in flames or anything :p I'm just interested.

I don't really know how to explain (and i wasn't worried about flames cause even if you did i wouldn't care because this whole week ur recommendations have led me to musical pleasure)

Anyway, take an album like Blackwater Park (which i haVE NO REAL LOVE FOR BECAUSE I M ANTI-oPETH), the way that's produceded makes it sound perfect in quality and right up in your face. Crimson...at least to me...makes the vocals seem far away or just not as in your face as they should be...i'm definately being picky especially because it's from 12 years ago.

Still this is awesome especially for me who really doesn't dig such gluttural vocalists. This is just stupendous.

Musical pleasrue? Sounds kinky (ignore me, I get this way when I'm tipsy)

Just seems like the production isn't really to your taste tbh, which isn't a bad thing of course, might just need time to grow, and to be fair I think someone else said something bad about the vocals to me before (not here though), but I did shoot them down in flames, they deserved it. and as for remastering, I don't think it's really necessary for a classic like this. I'd recommend checking out Crimson II though, that has a much more powerful and clear production.

And yeah, Opeth pretty much get the production spot on all the time, even in their earlier albums which sound a bit more raw, it still comes out sounding sweet.

I actually like this guy's vocals...and i do have partaken in intoxicating activity tonight...anyway this definately is awesome and i plan on listening to it much many times. I just dig really long songs wayyyy to uch. I just think truly amazing bands are able to make songs 20, 30, or 40 minutes without ever getting boring.

And you were right in your review with how short this feels...20 minutes in i thought this just began, it is quit fantastic.

THE TIME HAS COME FOR THE KING TO DIE!

Best part of the album, and the solo after it. Was that Mikael playing that solo?
