Oh this is an amazing metalcore album (or is it melo death?)! Aha, I still play this occasionally.

I'm pretty sure it's melodic death metal... just cause it's an American band that started around the same time these metalcore bands did doesn't make em metalcore.

I know that being an American band that started at the same time as other metalcore bands doesn't make a band metalcore thanks. I never said it did. Personally, I think it has elements of both.

They dont have nearly enough breakdowns, and their riffs/style is much more melodic

IMO Undoing ruin trumps this, but it still has some good stuff

They have elements of both genres IMO. I'm not saying they are full out metalcore, cos I know they're not. And this is the only Darkest Hour I have.

I'm not accusing you of anything HeadCharge123, i was just saying... Yes they might have some metalcore influences but it's still melodic death metal with metalcore influences in that case, not the other way around. This Message Edited On 07.12.08

Thor, these guys were sick on the Thrash and Burn tour man. But honestly Arsis was a little disappointing...when they were sound checking the guitars seriously sounded incredible but once they started everything got completely lost in the mix. They weren't bad, just not what I was expecting. The rest of the tour is a pretty large blowfest, except my date had Motorhead which was incredible to say the least!

That's happened to me one of the times I've seen them also. That was when I saw them at this awfully tiny metal bar though. The venue I'm seeing them at is in Raleigh and it's totally ace, maybe the best metal venue in the state.

Plus I've seen Arsis play there before and it was their best overall sounding set I've seen them play. What was their set list?

I'll be completely honest, I have all of their stuff but still have yet to know the tracks by names, with the exception of a few newer ones..They probably played 2 or 3 off We Are The Nightmare, I believe one off of United In Regret, and probably 2 off of A Celebration Of Guilt.
When James was sound checking his guitar though it sounded rediculously incredible, it was so clear and perfect and than when they started it was almost hard to decipher the songs being played. The guy can still absolutely shred but a lot of times with that technical of playing the notes just get lost in the mix.

are you talking about live or on their actual printed albums

I can decipher the notes perfectly well on ACoG, but i can surely understand your peeves with Arsis playing live.

I've had a bad experience with Arsis live once, so it's understandable. It takes them forever to soundcheck most of the time, though when they get it right it's downright incredible.

They better play The Cold Resistance.

No, on disc you can very clearly hear what they do. One of the things I really like about them on disc is their tone for guitars. Especially on their new disc they don't have to cover up subpar playing with gobs of distortion, they have a really clear and understandable tone. Live though (yesterday - only seen them once) everything was lost in the mix. Like I said I have all their stuff and enjoy all of it, but even I had a hard time hearing which songs were being played.
And I don't believe they played The Cold Resistance. I was absolutely dying to here We Are The Nightmare but sadly they didn't play it. I certainly hope to catch these guys again with a better sound, but considering it was part of a festival I'm honestly not holding that performance against them.

why does everyone love the production/mix on WatN so much?

I hate it...

What don't you like about it? I'm not saying it's epic or life-changing, I just think it's a nice change of pace from a lot of bands in the same vein as Arsis.
