Why does this album get more flack than usual for an opeth album? it seems strange to me that its one of my favorites while a lot of poeple find faults with it. personally i think it mops the floor with deliverance/damnation and watershed.

Deliverance and Watershed yes, but Damnation is definitely better than this.

You're also forgetting that Opeth have more releases than this 4.This Message Edited On 03.02.09

there's not a weak moment here, atonement gets too much flack, but I can understand someone liking Damnation over this

Im not forgetting the albums before Deliverance. Of course not, im just using them since they are the newer releases (02-onwards). I definitely like this better than damnation. I have to absolutely be in the mood for damnation, as sometimes the album suffocates me from the gloominess. And I thought Disintegration was gloomy. Of course Im not dissing damnation, this band never released a bad album, withe the closest being orchid but even that was good.

This is definitely one of the best Opeth albums. This will always be special to me because it was one of the first metal albums I bought.

Its a toss up between this and Morningrise as my third favorite Opeth album. Blackwater Park and Still Life are their two best quite obviously.

The Grand Conjuration is such a fucking evil song, tbh it might be my favorite Opeth song...at least top 5.

This album is very pretty. I think the clean passages are more powerful than many of those on Still Life, even though only the first 3 songs really fit into the band's "standard" style by having the deathmetal-to-clean sections.
