“It is a rushed album only for mainstream market”
this is just retarded. what mainstream market? as far as i know there’s no market for 6 minute prog songs. they actually alienated a fair amount of their “not metal enough” fan base to the point that it’s safe to say that commercial interests played no part in the direction they went with sorceress.

i mean if you don’t like the direction they’ve gone in that’s fine but to say their newer stuff is motivated by commercial interests is just stupid .

Pale Communion is as close as they've gotten to recapturing Damnation's glory tbh

"Ooh, you know what Opeth's doing now? They're going for the 'average prog' dollar. That’s a big dollar. A lot of people are feeling average. We’ve done research – huge market. They're doing a smart thing.”

Not to mention I feel like Watershed was a turning point, that if they kept on that prog-death path they'd progressively get more and more uninspired. Watershed's on the bottom half of my Opeth ranking.

Opeth is a band that strays from the mainstream if anything.

Wow, AgentD, we're on exact opposites here. Watershed is way up there and Heritage is even top 3 or so for me.

@Trifolium: I've noticed that my favorites from the band are usually the most bleak. Damnation, My Arms Your Hearse, Still Life, and Morningrise come to mind.
