"Just a reminder that this is better than storm"
General consensus says otherwise. That isn't to say you can't like Somberlain more and promote it more than Storm (:

Fortunately I don't regret buying this without hearing a note of it first. I need more time to decide if I like this or Storm more because it's an unfair comparison at the minute. Rock solid album though.

both are maybe equal to me depends on the day..but i play storm more

Am I right in thinking this leans more towards melo-death than Storm? Storm sounds closer to BM, although both are a blend of the two.

this is darker although storm riffs harder

I've always considered this melodeath, so I'm obviously going to agree with your assessment, Demon.

It's awesome whatever it is & I've been generally underwhelmed by the majority of melo-DM I've heard thus far. This strikes a nice balance.

agreed, this is not really black at all but I dig the sound they arrive at here
thinking about the musical landscape when they put this thing out just makes that much better for me

It was 1993 and I was listening alternative while something like this existed. Just kind of the same way I think the Doors must have really laid a head trip on people that happened upon them in 1967.

Ah right, makes sense now. I don't really have any sense of what the musical landscape was like at that time, at least not in a 'this is what I listened to/my peers listened to' sort of way.

No idea what I was listening to as a 3 yo but it definitely wasn't this

Yeah. I was 6 & it sure wasn't this either, considering I've only just discovered it 24 years later.
