I just started watching the anime this year (I’m sure I’ll eventually check the manga as well) and I’m fucking hooked now... just finished Drum Island, so I’m moving on to the Alabasta arc

Admittedly it took a lot of convincing for me to start watching it because of the sheer number of episodes. But someone from my work was like “just get to Arlong Park, because that’s the arc that always gets people into the series.” So I got to Arlong... and yeah, he was right. lol

yeah for immense length of the series it does a good job of making you care which is hard to do over a long period of time in a show
