Ya "Cemetery" and "Unkoil" are the only tracks I don't enjoy 100%. Ya, that includes "Alien Amplifier." Everything on AAP is gold except the two tracks I mentioned earlier.

Don't get why you would say "and that includes 'Alien Amplifier'"... That's one of the better tracks on the album, no?

Ya but it gets a lot of crap from fans that call it pop music. Not on sputnik but I've read it around.

Alien Amplifier is a hella fun song.

Plus, Matt Hyde sucked up Exile's production hardcore, which is what I dislike most about Exile. The bass drum is terribly triggered, Jason's vocals are way over produced, the snare is completely drown out by everything else, and everything just sorta sounds muddy as a whole. Thankfully, they fixed that problem with this one and went back to the better production of An American Paradox.

Yeah, I agree on Hyde's terribly sh*tty production of Exile. But songwise it owns AAP, no contest. And Angeldust is in no way their worst song in any category whatsoever, so maybe you have an inner ear problem or something. Vampires has some of the best melodies Strung Out has ever written IMO. I also don't quite understand how you think AAP was the first Strung Out with good production, as I find the mix on Element Of Sonic Defiance to be far better than anything else they've done aside from Blackhawks Over Los Angeles.

As for Alien Amplifier, it's a good song that also happens to be cheesy as hell, musically. I don't mind the pop aspects at all, it's just substandard for them. And facts are, there aren't a lot of standout tracks on Paradox. A lot of them have simply been done before, better, on previous albums (i.e., Contender, Kill Your Scene, Lubricating The Revolution, Dig, etc.). Exile In Oblivion has a much more unified, consistent sound in comparison, and at least four of the best tracks are in Strung Out's top 10 songs. Eat it.

I'd also like to throw in that Exile has far better lyrics than AAP.

First of all, the edit button is really useful.

Secondly, I'd like to know where I said this:

And no, Skeletondanse basically is what Angeldust and Vampires should have been. But it's okay, you rated We Are The Romans higher than Jane Doe so we know who is obviously tonedeaf.

First : can everyone stop arse-raping Element. Ok, it was innovative and different. I reviewed it for god's sake. But I'll be fked if it's even close to Strung Out's best stuff. It's a great Hardcore record. Nothing more.

Second : Let's stop over-analysing Strung Out. They're a sick band and they have some absolutely sick albums. Exile, Paradox, Twisted and this are all absolutely awesome. Ok.

Third: D Fell, yeah it might be Poppy Punk, but who cares, it's awesome!

Fourth: Who cares about double posts? Seriously, who cares? Not an issue!

I think it's a pretty cool testament to their creativity and diversity that almost none of their fans can agree on a favorite/best album.

I believe you stated the quote in Nick's BOLA review, intransit. And wtf does putting Jane Doe a fraction of a point lower than We Are The Romans have to do with anything at all? Maybe somewhere in Tangent Land it goes over well but here it didn't make much sense. My musical tastes are mine and don't have to agree with yours at all, just so you know. Free country and all. I love both of those albums, but WATR is a bit more influential and just about perfect. There's a filler track or two on Jane Doe but overall it's a godly record.

It's definitely not a straight hardcore record by any means. "Mission To Mars" is the only song on that EP that can be considered "hardcore", and that's a a bit of a stretch anyways. "Razorblade" is more textured and prog-ish. "Scarecrow" is straight metal. "Blew" is mid-tempo and creepy with more emphasis on melody and texture, i.e. not hardcore.

I wrote a review for it too, and I stand by my 5 rating for it no problem. Songwriting-wise, it's easily Strung Out's most consistently great release. Not a single mediocre song on it. It's kinda like how most TFOT fans consider Ghostship Demo as their best work even though it's only four songs. The quality of the songs are just way better than anything else they've done before or since.

I got this album the day it came out and after a couple listens was pretty disappointed. I thought it was good, but nowhere near EiO's calibre. After listening for a couple weeks and seeing them live with A Wilhelm Scream 2 nights in a row I've completely changed my outlook. Such has been the case for every Strung Out album I've bought. I always end up comparing it with their previous release and after it grows on me the roles are reversed. It's evident they gave guitars free reign on this album. Their songwriting goes in stages where they try and give each member a spot in the limelight and sometimes that takes multiple albums to achieve. I believe The King has Left the Building is the gem on this one for the drums alone. The lyrics sound like the sequel to Savant to me... losing faith. Anyways, I thought TBD was better than EoSD when that first came out. I was wrong about that too.

Meh. This album lost a lot of its luster kinda quickly for me. It just doesn't stand up to any of Strung Out's more recent records, and AWS simply owned them with Career Suicide.
