Because Opeth is godly, duh.

A sample of Mikael Akerfeldt's voice is in Repentance. Mike Portnoy was going to start a project w/ Steven and Mikael. I thought that Mikael only did the light solo and some vocal harmonies.
I honestly don't see how they sound like Opeth in any spot on the cd. The solo in Repentance could easily be inspired by something completely different, I just think ppl are making these accusations b/c, look at the bands they say DT are plagiarizing; They're pretty much the best bands that're really cooking nowadays. But if there's another band that did something closer to what DT made before PT and Opeth did these things (b/c we know they weren't doing their current style 10 years ago), nobody would be saying anything.
So the way I see it, Opeth and PT (and Metallica, apparently) fanboys are accusing DT of stealing b/c they're putting their own fav bands on a pedestal.

i'm definitely not a metallica fanboy, dt is plain ripping off, and you need to listen to opeth more if you don't see the similarity. it's really, really similar. i dislike it. plus it's just a snoozefest.

snoozefest.

But Metallica fanboys are doing what I said they were doing.
If you really think I'm wrong, then just point out spots or concepts in songs by both artists and if they're similar enough, I'll agree. I'm not saying your wrong, I'm just waiting for you to prove you're not.
Btw, I didn't neg. And I am very fond of Opeth and even did piano versions of Face of Melinda, For Absent Friends, and Weakness.
In Repentance, Rudess uses the same string sound as on Damnation at one spot. That's too small to be a rip-off so please help me expand on that.

2:46 in Forsaken. Gogogo Evanescence line. (The song escapes me, but it is a song off Fallen.)
Intro to Prophets of War is too similar to Take a Bow.
Dark Eternal Night riff is very similar to Walk riff.
Constant Motion vocals and riffs are Metallica and Anthrax, hardcore.
Repentance guitar solo is an Opeth guitar solo. The whole background thing is something DT doesn't do, it sounds like Damnation all the time.
the other songs aren't ripoffs but just bloated.

I don't see how Walk and TDEN are similar at all. Not notes, rhythm, structure, and hardly feel either, in any part of either song. Only similarity noticable right off the bat is they can both be considered badass and/or heavy.
The riff in CM before the first vocals come in is a mix of pulled-off and hammered-on fourths, which are pretty common in thrash metal. The other notes in the riff (every fourth measure) aren't. A riff in the second verse takes a small idea from the second verse in Fatal Tragedy. The vocal style may be similar, but what rhythms or melodies are they ripping off?
What Opeth guitar solo?
What Evanescence song? Please? lol
Others bloated, pretty much, but I don't mind too much.
Knocked down rating b/c they're trying to do too many things at once on this record, and some stuff is just bland when it could've been better. They need a new producer or something. And not Rick Rubin, damnit, I haven't been too impressed w/ him lately.

I can't pinpoint a specific song, but it is definitely a Damnation-esque guitar solo, something that would fit perfectly on windowpane.
Rhythms. nothing. they just sound like Metallica, doesn't mean they have to have the same riff. it's just too close for me to be comfortable.

Ya, this album doesn't sound like Opeth, Metallica(wtf), PT, or Evanecence(wtf again). People are stupid, Metallica fans should look at them selves and say that Metallica is trying to rip off all those Nu-Metal bands, but there music blows now anyways

Meh, not really well written. A good rant, but it should go on a forum.

yeah, altmer, dt takes many influences and their past albums to add that kind of deja vu feel to their material. i don't think you really get them very much.

dude i have all their stuff and completely love some of their albums, but this isn't deja vu... this is ripping off.
i just totally don't like this album's mentality.

I like this review man...its pretty much how I felt and I love DT. I think its better than Octavarium (which I thought was really dissapointing except for the title track). I think they were best with Kevin Moore (IaW and Awake). But the only songs I find myself listening to the most is Constant Motion and TDEN. Forsaken isn't BAD, but it isn't great...IMO
Good review though man
